Pedal Boards:

IMG_6919.JPG I have that Joyo delay and it my favourite delay of all time. I am on my third one, they poop out on me. My boards part A and part B are done. The last part C is on the drawing board. A celebratory bottle of wine is called for and I'll even take it out of the bag.

Hey Kev, I thought of you as I set up my Silkyn last night and found some really good stuff on both channels.
I swapped in another 12at7 at the v3 reverb driver and damn it is strong and splashy now!!
Really itching to do the dirt channel mods; parts been sitting for months.

(Kevinpaul turned some of us on to the Silkyn Super 50 over on another forum)

I am going to get back to work on the Silkyn in a week or so. I put a 12AT7 in V1 of the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe to get control of the too loud volume. A 12AU7 should really spice it up. I have a list of hotter tubes for different locations. The 12AX7 is hotter on the spec page. I have more room on the volume up to 4 vs 2 with the 12AX7.
 
I went through a ridiculous number of "boutique" pedals and different configurations. Constant headache of tone-chasing in my opinion, so eventually I said F-it-all and went simple and reliable:

The Hot Rod Deluxe comes in a signature model for a jazz guitar player, Benson and his first name escapes me. The V1 stock from Fender is a 12AT7 that replaced the 12AX7. I did not do any of this research but saw YouTube videos on it and after that I looked at this prettier model. I can get to the tubes easily and pulled the first tube directly below the volume control. It was the lower out put 12AT7 that I used to modify my out of control volume. The volume is no longer a hair trigger but I can adjust it and the drive with out worry the cops will be at the door.
 
Well if you look at the photo you have quoted of my old board that should give you an idea of what you can fit. The board on the left is a PT-2 (the current Pedaltrain of this size is the Classic 2). The board on the right is the PT-JR (the current Pedaltrain of this size is the Classic JR).

As a rule of thumb you can fit two rows of six regular size Boss pedals across the PT-2 (i.e., twelve pedals) if you velcro right to the edge of the board and have the power supply mounted underneath.

The PT-JR would be more like two rows of four. This depends on layout of course. I tend to leave the wah, volume, etc off the board proper and run power from the the power supply on the board when needed for a wah.

There are probably other companies who make similar boards. I would go with something made from aluminium tubing with room for a power supply underneath.

Remember that the bigger the board and the more connections you have the more hassle you will have. I have downsized recently for that reason. Delay is good, a reverb like the RV-6 or RV-5 with lots of options is good, the NS-2 is good and you will always need a tuner. Personally I would keep the EQ. I don't run a compressor but some people need them for their style. I like having a chorus even though I only use it for the intro to one song. The pitch-shifter and phaser are just there for noise stuff and are only used at the end of our set. Same with the DM-2 and the expression pedal. Even the wah doesn't get much use at present because I haven't written any songs with it. Besides the reverb the main effect pedal I use is the Carbon Copy. I have the boost because of how I have set up the gain structure on my lead channel. It is on all the time, like the EQ and NS-2. The Gigadelay is worth considering as a replacement for the DD-3. It pushed a DD-7 off my board. The tone knob is very useful as digital delay can be too bright. It also has up to four presets, so it is like having five delay pedals

Finally, even i need a pedal board. Two independent channels on one single board. The actual color is a pretty intense tranparent red. The board is made of poplar plywood.

Upper row: four string bass, usually Sharkfin. Just Chorus/Flanger and tuner. And space for an equalizer if i want to play different amps (but i need to repair one channel of the power supply)

Lower board: compressor (EBS in tubesim mode), overdrive, chorus, tuner. Used mainly for Blacky VI. And maybe the RD.

With the exception of the Wizard Wah pictured, I've been sticking with this the past two to three years. Currently my beat up old modified Cry Baby is on the board because the Wizard is broken. I think I'm all set, and don't have any plans on changing anything for a while.

And a small one for my living room - you see: no tuner (attached to the mixing console), just an equalizer and the famous EBS compressor. This time the power plant is hanging downward. Main advantage: it uses less floor space and it'll hopefully collect less dust.

I recently cut a handle into it for easier handling and I added my fancy-schmancy three-way guitar switch.

It's old. It's obsolete. But, it's reliable and I can get good sounds from it.
