PCB In Gibsons:

The quality has been uniformly perfect out of the box.
Sure, the occasional problem will come up but they are certainly the exceptions and not the rule.

That's been my experience with the 2012-14 Gibsons in my remuda. Plek takes all of the guess work out of frets and nuts. I have done setups on several of the "HP" models to go to heavier or lighter setups and the new bridges and ZFAN make that operation much easier. I doubt I'll be buying any more guitars, unless I can get a skeletal guitar, like a Gittler.

I am not shy about recommending other brands, but cannot, after more than half a century of experience, say that Gibson QC is bad. It isn't. Their customer service has been outstanding when I have called upon them.

Can't say I can complain about any of my Gibsons either; the only problem I've had was a broken headstock on my Les Paul Junior, and that was hardly the Gibson QC's fault...

Naturally, others might feel differently, but I like Gibson.

Oh --- well--- let me say I do not DISLIKE Gibsons --- I LOVE my SG..... LOVE it ....(thanks again Gball)
I guess my feeling is this --- the circuit board seems --- "phoned in" for the Big "G" ---- I mean a "cheapo Rondo" has soldered old school wiring---

Come on Gibbo--- you are PRemier Quality -- a FLAGSHIP brand---- just expect better.

Like I dont EXPECT the local high school foot ball team (Rondo) to BEAT the SUper Bowl Champs (Gibson) but lately it happens ---- a lot---

Get your hearing checked. I like Rondo guitars and have seen quite a few. The electronics leave much to be desired and side by side with a Gibson (or most Epiphones, Guilds , PRS, etc/) they sound tinny. That' OK because you only paid a couple of bills for it. You spend $500 or more, suddenly the jewelers loop comes out. Gibson went to pcbs because they are cost effective, hard to screw up and environmentally friendly.

Hey I had a hearing last week and they cleared me of ALL charges----- and a few things I didn't do ;)

RONDO was chosen at random (say that 10 times fast) --- you could put in Irin--- or Squire-- or SX --- or Douglas--- Glenn Burton or ---or ---or --- all the other chibson knock offs.

---and you need to check YOUR hearing cause I dont spend over 500.00--- if I do it better put out twice and do the dishes before it leaves ;)

The problem with the Gibson PCBs I've had has been 300k pots and modern wiring. I prefer 500k pots and 50s wiring.
That should be an option, for sure. Gibson engineers feel that 500k pots "open up" their humbuckers too much, resulting in the harshness that others actually desire in a pickup.

I am seriously considering doing a hand wiring job (don't even THINK about it, ADRIAN!) ;) on my faded special too. I agree with biddlin's comment above, and like my hum buckers "opened up"... I'm waiting for a set of Bourn pots to arrive so I can re-wire my bass, and I think the next one I rewire will be the SG Special...

Look, I hear about the Rondos are better than Gibson thing and I say "Show Me." I am still waiting to play that "better" Rondo' Instead of hyperbole show us some concrete examples.

---so is poo but I dont want that in my guitars control cavity either---
This opinion is made by one of the lunatics bringing you this rant-------rant----
it has not been clinically proven or tested by the FDA -- FCC -- CIA---FBI-- or the rantee and your usage may vary---some fading will occur in sun light and normal ride up will occur with wear....
Bettyu Crocker Girls Club (hubba hubba)
pay no attention to the man behind the curtain

that is all---

I let somone else spend 1099.00 on them.......and then buy them for 400-450 ;)

Same guitar ....less B.S. nice try Biddy ol Lad......dont hold water

just because a 900 guitar is purchased for 400 used is it a "crap" in your annalogy guitar or is it a good worthy GIBBO CASTER???

PCB's are the way of the future, but wiring is far easier to repair.

I prefer the old style wiring...and that's what this SG is going to receive.....along with the vintage impedance (8.2/7.8k) German Silver Covered PAF clones I have here on hand.

Did you know that Seth Lover said in an interview that the covers were installed on the PAF's mainly to diminish the higher frequency harshness???

Is this a good time to bring up Fender's "personality cards?" Y'know...those little credit-card sized PCBs that you could insert into the guitar and essentially rewire the thing?

No?

Okay. I won't bring it up, then.

Just sayin', Gibby could do the same thing.

*****
Step right up, sonny! You say you want '50s wiring? Well, pop this little card in, and you got yer '50s wiring!

You say you want modern wiring, little missy? Well, sweetheart, you just put this little card right there in that there guitar, and there you go! Modern wiring!
******

Seriously, it could be just as easy as that.

When I'm finally done modding my Washburn in all fashion of guitar abomination, I want a pinstripe job on it, like that.

That'll get the purists broiling!

What more do you need......Dirty Fingers---P90--- Tremelo --- semi Hollow and looks like something that came off the Strip

Hot ROD Lincoln....guitar style ;)
