You need a cab with one 10 and 0ne 12 in it.I have two 1x12 cabs, a 2x12 cab, a 4x12 cab and a 1x10 cab right now. Very versatile...
I too prefer separate head and cab, but I wouldn't rule out a combo just because it's a combo.
combos kill tubes
Definitely not in to “big” combos here....loved my Silkyn though...50 watts....1x12...64lbs(a shade under 30Kg?).I think there's a developing consensus that nobody likes gigging the big combos.
I haven't seen anyone yet say that they don't mind lugging one of those huge 212 combos like the Mace, Deuce, 5150, or JSX. Most people who gig combos don't have anything bigger than a Classic 30.
My friend with the Mesa Rectoverb 50 has been regretting buying it ever since he started gigging again six years ago but he's stuck with it really.

The classic 30, that I’ve inherited, was shaking itself apart upon arrival. The chassis was floating around...the cab was able to be pushed out of square...preamp tubes(two) were microphonic....a frikken train wreck. Now I keep up with keeping it tight, it has been fine. Swapped the stock speaker for a “made in China” Vintage 30...I actually like it very much, but I don’t lug it around too much these days. I did for a side project, for a bit, and it held up well. I’ve also pulled the reverb right out of it, at the board....happy that I did, as it was noisy as.... I still don’t like the dirt channel, but the clean takes my pedals really well. No, it’s not the greatest amp, but it has become serviceable.
Still gotta put it back together...this past winter was not obliging....too much business bologna. Is your Silkyn gone? Mine is still singing sweetly! No issues after the Xformer swap...

and a LIGHT cabinet--- and be done with it these will almost fit IN the gig bag pocket of a bass.....and honestly I think the tc electronics wqould fit in the fl;ap compartment of the Thunderbird Gator case--(damn case is as big as my first apartment!
That’s what I liked about the Silkyn, the stock speaker sounded REALLY GOOD with it. It gigged well. I probably played 6-7 shows with it, and it was fantastic....The other issue with combos is that when you go up in power you have to go to a 212 combo (heavy) or one of the high-rated speakers, which usually are rather stiff and not very musical.
