You all know what a combo is.

This is more about amps that might feasibly be in either format, as opposed to little practice amps.

I'll admit it: I'm a hater, thanks to my experience with open back combos with tubes hanging down in the blast radius of the speaker

o.k. dicking about aside---I like combos---
and I like heads/cabinets---
but my gear comes in and well STAYS if it stays----my Harke Combo -- and Panama Cab have not moved in 4 years----so ----
the MEsa (friggin 50lb anchor) also --- was placed--- in its home and its THERE---it isnt carried in and out hauled to gigs etc.

TBTH --- If I played gigs------

Id have this

or better yet this
TX600-HO_NSPwQKh.jpg

and a LIGHT cabinet--- and be done with it these will almost fit IN the gig bag pocket of a bass.....and honestly I think the tc electronics wqould fit in the fl;ap compartment of the Thunderbird Gator case--(damn case is as big as my first apartment!

It depends on the combo. I've currently got two heads, which I use with a 1x12 cab, and two combos, a 1x10 and a 4x10. The 4x10 is the best sounding but it also the heaviest so it rarely leaves the house. For home us eor practice it really doesn't matter if its a combo or a head. For live use usually for me convenience and weight is the key.

Since I always mic my amp so it's mostly combos for me.
If I get really ambitious I will take this but only for variety.
It offers no upgrade sonically over the combos I gig with,
but I have to admit, it looks kinda cool.

(Note off center off axis mic placement.)

I don’t like them. Nothing to do with my back. I find them too limiting...I like to change cabs to suit what I’m doing, and combos kill tubes.

I don’t hate them. I don’t seek them out though...and always seek out a “head” version of the amps that peak my interest. I do like having a variety of speaker cabinets available for use with various heads.

Since I always mic my amp.....

Never owned a head / speaker box setup.
Always combos.
Small ones with a single 10" speakers, bigger ones with two or 3 tens, and of course single 12's and two 12's.
But never had a stack. Full half or mini.

Had one head that I got from eSGEe that I was going to stick in a cabinet with a 15" speaker and horn and make a combo out of it, but within a half day of ear splitting home alone joy, I nuked that poor thing into a smouldering, sparking fuse blowing heap of solid state dung.
Don't know what did it. Impedance mismatch? Act of God? Shorted crossover? Bad karma from a previous life?

That same cabinet with the 15 also took out the repaired keyboard / bass amp chassis that was in it originally after Drumoid repaired it for me.

So that cabinet killed the original power amp twice and the MG100 chassis that I got from eSGEe.

Wanna bet that i never use that 15" cabinet again.
Soon to be available on Craigslist! :pound-hand:

I will choose a head and cabinet almost every time. If you get one or two real nice heads you can have all kinds of cabs. You can make a lot of good combinations that way.

I have two 1x12 cabs, a 2x12 cab, a 4x12 cab and a 1x10 cab right now. Very versatile...
