I always thought that part in the Zoo was one of those voice tube things like Frampton and Perry use.The Wah part in that song the Zoo reminds me of the wah part in the song Man in a Box .Alice in Chains with Jerry Cantrel i do believe it was.
A Heil "Talk Box". Not much to them, a suitable wattage midrange compression driver with a "coupler" for the hose tube screwed onto the throat & a capacitor, plus the footswitch. I made my own. Haven't used it in a few years, might drag it out this weekend & rattle my remaining teeth around in my head. These newer "Banshee" type talk box work on a different principal to the "Heil" type that all the old school guys used. Note the control knobs on the Banshee. It has a low wattage amp/mic & pre amp circuitry etc so as to plug between the guitar & amp. It puts a "low volume" sound into your mouth.

You can have the box I'll take herI need one of those.
Dibs dude. I called it first. I don't want that silly box.You can have the box I'll take her
That's interesting I kinda wondered how the old ones worked. These newer "Banshee" type talk box work on a different principal to the "Heil" type that all the old school guys used. The "Heil" type operated by taking the place of the speaker load on a tube amp, so you've got usually either a 50 or 100 watt amp blasting up into your mouth (the amp has to be driven hard for best sound). The sound from your mouth is then picked up by a microphone for re-amplification. For best sound you have to get used to breathing either in or out through your mouth whilst playing notes. This shows why one generally doesn't hear any super-long talk box passages,,, it rattles your head. Cheers
