Old dudes are asleep...

I'm going to be up late-ish...

Heading out into the hills so I can get away from light pollution.

Gonna grab my little bbq grill, some beers and stare at the comet for a while.

You guys did hear about the comet neowise, didn't you? I was able to see it faintly with the naked eye from my front yard, but there's too much light pollution. When I look in the sky to where it is, I see this instead:

This street lamp isn't helping any.

Cool on the little trip, are you going to bring an acoustic ??

Wasn't planning on it lol...my one and only acoustic I have had since I was 17...it's not in good shape and I don't know how to make it better, and because of that I don't really enjoy playing it. It's only still around because it was my birthday gift from my dad that year, so it still hangs on the wall.

This outing won't take too long, probably. It doesn't even get quite dark enough until about 10pm, and last night the comet had gone over the horizon and out of view by midnight.

This pic shows it in relation to the big dipper, up until the 19th of this month, as I understand it, it's supposed to be visible until the 24th or something.

I like space stuff...lol

In 2017 I went down south, to Madras, OR, where I camped out in a hay field so I could witness the solar eclipse in it's totality.

I've seen some awesome stuff...but that eclipse was probably the most literal awesome thing I've ever seen in my life, not even joking

Okay dudes....that comet is badass

There was no moon out tonight, so it was especially friggin dark out in the boonies. We could see the milky way, and it's cloudy streak across the sky. Not something I get to see too often these days. Took it for granted when I was younger and it was an every night occurrence.

I picked out more satellites than I ever remember seeing all at once, several of which followed the same path, not far behind the one in front of it....an astonishing amount, really. Over the last several years we've managed pollute our skies with junk that helps us watch football, or browse the web, etc...

But that comet though....is visible with just the naked eye, a big beautiful tail...simply amazing.

All my friends think I'm a dork. I pity them, as they don't know how or why these things are magnificent.

Yeah, I am a dork. So fukcing what?

I slept until almost noon...

Last night I brought my boy to jam night again...he was actually playing the drums instead of just beating on things.

He got blisters on his fingers, and broke a drumstick.

I think we had our first actual jam...and it was fun

Then, when I got home, some rapscallions were playing...um...."ding-dong-ditch"....(not what we used to call that when I was younger...ahem..) and I chased them down the street...which was kinda fun, actually, except for the fact that I'm dreadfully out of shape...I only made it a block and a half before I pooped out, but I was able to put the fear into them.

Then, my wife called the cops (which I wasn't too happy about....)

Anyway, I was up way too late again and slept in way too late (again) too

That’s a fine Friday night and Saturday morning.
I got up at 4:00 AM drove the 90 miles to work and we are almost finished for the day, so plenty of beer to be consumed, and a little bit of playing to come!!
Cheers
