This month's deep dive subject:
Love For Sale (1a)
D'Angelico Premier Mini DC XT (SD Jazz pickup)
HX Stomp, RC-3
Written by Cole Porter for his 1930 musical 'The New Yorkers', the song is sung from
the viewpoint of a prostitute.
When it was first released, newspapers labelled it 'in bad taste', and radio stations
refused to play it.
Because of the complaints, Porter shifted the setting of the song in the musical to the
Cotton Club in Harlem, where it was sung by an African American, Elisabeth Welch,
instead of white singer Kathryn Crawford.
Somehow, that made it OK.
Really?
*rolls eyes*
It's still a great tune, though!
