NPAD - Kemper

Initial impressions.

Super easy to use. The interface is very intuitive - about 25% as hard as a DAW.

Sounds good through the quilter or the monitors, just different. I see much use through my amp's power sections (so much for selling them off).

Some amazing sounds! I am a bit overwhelmed with options!! Paralysis by analysis!
I had a grin on my face for months with mine. Actually I think it never wore off! Awesome!

This thread has me digging back into mine. Even though I use it everyday I find there is more available on a regular basis!

Next up...the Kemper Kone speaker!
Just been bangin' around on the Kabinet... loving it. I bought a Kone as well but haven't used it yet.
I think my plan is to wait for this Covid crap to go away, take my Kabinet to a local guitar cab maker and get them to clone it and stick the Kone in there.
Then I'll have a Kabinet, a Kone, and a Klone.

Hey speaking of tones. In another thread I posted a clip of Pink Floyd with David's tone in Live from Pompeii. I caught something re: the WEM sound gear.
Pretty sure I did a screen capture and if anyone else has knowledge, please inform me.

So, what I saw during the part 2 Echoes clip on youtube is the back of one cab. Correct me if I am wrong, but does it not say 6 ohm? I know some of the cabs were WEM and a number of Hiwatt heads were being used. But does anyone know where to find a 6 ohm Amp to go with a 6 ohm Cab?

The 6 ohm reading is common reading on an 8 ohm load and bout a 12.6 on a 16 ohm cabinet it's part of the norm! But A hundred what "hylight" ( Hiwatt" ) I would love to hear, speakers being Fane as that's what Hiwatt favored. I'm sure your overwhelmed till you get to play around with it a bit.

So many combinations available. Too...much....input!!
Sorry - multitasking!

Surreal I tell you!
But where to start!?!?

It appears that Bobby-Ray Vaughan has finally lost his mind. Most professional recording studios (probably...) have less equipment, most TV broadcasting station have less monitors, most guitar shops have less pedals, most national electricity grids have less wires... :p

I hear ya, Hank. From my own Ohms checking of a 4x12 cab based on the Mono/.Stereo switch being in the 16 ohm setting and coming out with a reading of 14.8 ohms total. Or somewhere in the 7.4 ohm range when switched the other setting.

I also knew the old Hiwatt cabs had Fane speakers in them. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I just found a sweet treasure trove if info. Gilmourish.com

Guitars and amps at Pompeii outdoor sessions and
Paris studio sessions

Fender Stratocaster The Black Strat
– 1969 all stock with a black alder body, white pickguard and a maple neck with a large headstock. The same guitar is seen with a chrome volume knob at the Paris studio sessions (night footage).

3 Hiwatt DR103 All Purpose 100W heads
– with Mullard 4xEL34 power tubes and 4xECC83 pre-amp tubes (one head was a spare).
2 HH Electronic IC-100 100W solid state heads
– Paris studio location (overdubs and night footage).
4 WEM Super Starfinder 200 cabinets
– with 4×12″ Fane Crescendo speakers with metal dust caps.

Note: A Leslie 147 is seen to the left of David’s WEM speaker cabinets. It’s not documented whether he used it or if it belonged to the keyboard rig. David’s amp rig at the Paris sessions feature two HH solid state 100w amps in addition to the Hiwatts. These might have been an early version of the classic Alembic preamp setup driving the Leslie cabinet.
