Nitrogen in tires. Why?

Racing is the only application where I ever heard of nitrogen being used, for greater consistency.

I never used it. I had magnesium wheels on my track moto and never had an issue with regular air. Those of us who got the most out of our tires paid excessive amounts of attention to tuning air pressures, though. Even to the point of using heat guns to measure tread and wheel temperatures. Ultimately, we (a few of us) could tune the tires by reading the wear, or lack of wear.

People would come off the track with nearly destroyed tires and think they were really doing the business. The bikes that won long and fast races had tires that looked all but brand new when they finished the race (assuming you started with fresh new tires).

I reckon the rate of tyre wear is a good measure of the ability of the rider. It's easy enough to brake and accelerate too hard as compensation for not being able to ride the corner quickly.

Well what I've gathered from this is that inflating your tires, tyres, or tars (pronounced "tarrs" in Texas) with the common air we have around us is just as good as it was for over a century we've been doing so. The introduction of another gas into said object is simply another way to make a profit with "fluffy" advertizement in order to fleece the gulable public. Somehow I'm not surprised either. Anything for a buck eh?

Tire wear...good points. I am also a fanatic about alignment. On my 2006 Mustang, I have experimented with alignment settings until I arrived at the best compromise between handling and tire life. I found that by setting both wheels at about 6/10th degree negative camber (between 1/2 and 3/4 degree) and about 1/8" toe in gives me the best results and no pronounced inside tire wear on the fronts. I'm running 255/35/ZR20 up front with 275/35/ZR20 in the back, both inflated to about 34 psi cold.

Brakes is another one of my fanatical areas. I have been using a pad called "Perfect Stop," a ceramic pad. Virtually zero dust and I still have over a 1/4" of lining after 40,000 miles - Rotors look like chrome and the oscillating grinder swirl marks can still be seen, with absolutely no lip on them....
