New Hand Held Circular Saw Day. After cutting a 36"x36" piece out of a 6'x4' board on a table saw by myself, I thoght this would be a worthwhile investment. It has a laser (seems everything does nowadays!)

The toolbox is NOT new, but more of a relic. I think that is genuine wagon-red!!

I can tell that your are not very accurate with your circular saw skills. You missed a bunch of other fingers!

Funny comment :-)
Laying there not knowing if I was going to have four or five fingers on that hand had me thinking back to my early life working as a mechanical fitter. So many of my coworkers had missing fingers, occupational hazard. I was pi**ed off thinking I'd gone so long and done this in my retirement at home :-(

OUch I opened that link, sysco. Just while eating pasta n meat sauce

Lucky I didn't post the series of healing photos.

More dangerous than circular saws ... the 9" diamond blade angle grinder!
Last week I cut three openings through brick walls in my basement.
I never learn, no eye, hearing, lung or foot protection, I must be a thrill seeker (or just stupid).

That was really you? gasket How long ago was this? I have had my share of mishaps, but never to a point of sawing myself.

Yep stupid me, 2013.
Great outcome, thumb looks normal (a few scars) all of the missing flesh grew back, even with fingerprints. Lost a little sensation on one side, no big deal.

I have done this basement wall cutting job before. Although I wore full protection as it was quite dusty, quite yucky work. Oh and we also had to dig out the dirt on the other side of the wall as the job also involved forming up and pouring concrete steps down to the new door opening we were installing.

Glad you are ok Gasket. I took a tiny drill bit to my palm once which got infected. I appear to have lost strength and range of motion in my first 2 fingers on my right hand due to likely nerve damage. They still work, but unfortunately it makes holding a plectrum and manipulating it into position to play awkward sometimes.

I've dug out and under pinned two brick walls, now turning it from some rough rooms into a self contained flat. Worked it so that with a double door open it's a part of the house, closed it's a flat. 7:48AM here, sun is up, I'll take a couple of photos if you like, still a work in progress but getting there.

ok gasket pics or it dint happn

Red X shows excavated floor, blue X shows my underpinning.

Similar photo to early shot after dust cleanup. Big opening will be a walk in robe, small opening will be open shelving (second bedroom).

I've had the bathroom and kitchen functional for a while now.
We'll spread out and use the area as on one side it opens out to the pool, but long term I figure my old mum will move in.

Nice looking place--- I could hang some gear in there -- get a futon and crash baby

When I referred to the job as a "basement", I was simplifying for Nth American ears.
We don't build with basements in Aust, on a slightly sloping block we normally build from the high point and as the years roll on owners often excavate under from the low side. This one was done in an haphazard way by the previous owner. I'm refining it from uneven not flowing floors and rooms into a functional area.

Front of structure showing outside ground level.

Rear of house.
4 = my games room.
1 = new kitchen with bathroom further behind.
2 = living room.
3 = 2nd bedroom.
The room in first photo will get a wall to the left of the glass blocks making 1st bedroom to the right.
