Maybe the Shiz Brothers ?JT, THIS BAD BOY is the SHIZ.
In Fact, I should call the 2 Lesters The Shiz and The SHIZ 2
Well, I now have the strings and bridge and tailpiece off. Bridge is stamped made in Germany. TP no markings.
I guess I will pull the bridge pup up and look at the back for how it is marked.
For all who guessed Dimarzio Super Distortion, I am sorry to say, it is not one of those. Instead, I saw some kind of Signature on the back of the pup.
Half Expecting it to maybe have Dimarzio's signature on it, I see quite a different name. Al Dimeola model.
I've never pulled the cover plates off my 2021 Les Paul 50's Standard. It sounds too good to mess with....
Considering your experiences with squealing from uncovered/unwaxed pups, I would just stick with keeping yours status quo.
Don't fix something that aint broken.
AS I am now into day 2.5 with my '79, and have the strings off, I am finding a few of the flaws/shortcomings that need correction before I re-string it.
The main area of maintenance are the loose bridge bushings in the body and of course aged saddles, gunky saddle adjustment screws, cleaning of everything, and fixing the loose screw in the bottom strap button.
Oh you met Mo and JoMaybe the Shiz Brothers ?
I pulled up some ads for other 1979 Les Paul " KM" models on reverb.
There are a few Tobacco burst type ones like mine, a Natural one that fella Trogly has for sale, and a couple of the Red Sunburst ones.
I messaged Trogly and he says he saw my guitar on sale and that it is a KM just missing the Bridge Double Cream T Top and the KM Truss rod cover.
Other than the pup and KM TRC, the 2 switches which a previous owner cut out some areas in the shielding, pot mounting plate to install them, and somehow the ashtray cover has also become missing.
That Trogly fella seems very knowledgeable -- even for an Ohioann (BUWAHAHHA) just dont leave your gear or your wife laying around .......... wait..... no thats a different pirate tale.......I pulled up some ads for other 1979 Les Paul " KM" models on reverb.
