NGD: Another Home Assembled Stratocaster!

I just finished the preliminary assembly of a new Strat. This one has a nice Flame Maple neck with the Big 70's Headstock. Locking Fender Tuners, a MIM Fender 3 Tone Replacement Body, New Emerson Wiring with CTS Pots and Oak Grigsby 5 Way Switch and CM Daugherty 59' Hand Wound Pickups.

Ahh, yes... the Fender locking tuners.

I love those things.

It’s okay to be wrong.

That’s fine. We’re your friends and we’re here to help.

That took a lot of courage to admit.

But, be encouraged, acknowledging your error is how the healing begins!

LOL!!! I doubt I will ever burn incense with you guys on a tiny statue of Leo, but if I can get a similar enough tone from this Squire - meaning specifically to mimic the Gibson SG's OOP tone in the middle position - it will be a useful tool that I won't worry about if it gets knocked around a little...

I figure that if this Squire project meets with success, I will order a custom swimming pool rout Stratocaster body out of Mahogany from B.Hefner and transfer these electronics into it.

I'm looking at two 'U' profile licensed Fender necks - one is Mahogany with Ebony board and 12" radius and the other is Wenge with Rosewood and also a 12" radius. Either would be a very nice neck for this project...

I have never liked the headstock on Fender Strats. Even when I owned one. In all honesty they are ugly.

Matter of taste for sure because I love the headstock on a Strat. I can't stand the headstock on a Seagull acoustic. It's irrational, but I won't
own one based on the headstock alone...makes no sense even to me...On the other hand I love the D'Angelico headstocks.

I have always liked the Gibson Open Book and Explorer style headstocks, but they don't look "right" on just any body.

I'm kinda partial to my own design, mostly because its my creation....though some may not care for it either.

I needed to get some better pictures of this neck up here! It's just as unbelievable as the roasted neck...
Where did the neck come from?

Did you do any work to it?

Is the fretboard flame maple, too?

Does the board have a finish on it?

It also just dawned on me about roasted neck woods. I'm wondering at what phase of the necks construction does the wood get roasted?

Where did the neck come from?

Did you do any work to it? - A guy I met online. He makes them himself.

Is the fretboard flame maple, too? It is.

Does the board have a finish on it? Yes, typical Strat type finish.

It also just dawned on me about roasted neck woods. I'm wondering at what phase of the necks construction does the wood get roasted? Before the necks are made from what I gather.

Did you do any work to it? - No, just drilled it for mounting and reamed the tuner holes to size.
