I just finished the preliminary assembly of a new Strat. This one has a nice Flame Maple neck with the Big 70's Headstock. Locking Fender Tuners, a MIM Fender 3 Tone Replacement Body, New Emerson Wiring with CTS Pots and Oak Grigsby 5 Way Switch and CM Daugherty 59' Hand Wound Pickups.

I assume you're referring to the Bigsby headstock, and while I can see that it may have provided inspiration I wouldn't personally call it a ripoff, in that Leo managed to make something quite ugly (the Bigsby) into something quite comely and classic.

I recall what I went through designing my own headstock and the examining attorney mentioned the Bigsby/Fender as a classic example of copyright infringement that was never addressed....

I personally think the Fender's headstock is hideous - both pre and post CBS variants. I do give it credit for its straight string pull though. I suppose we have seen it for so many years now that it somehow looks "normal" now???

I love everything about the Stratocaster. It's just sexy with all thos curves! There is no other guitar that has so many options for easy pickup changes and combinations.
Nor are there many that offer such an ease of building, modifying or repairing by the everyday player and amateur tinkerer than the Fender line of guitars!

I like the shape and balance of the Stratocaster. I also like that it will withstand being dropped. As long as I can change everything else, I can work with it...
