NGD 2017 Les Paul Faded T

I posted in another thread that a local chain had these on special and I had ordered one. It arrived yesterday afternoon. They only had open box stock left so I was a little leery. I didn't need to be. This is hands down the best setup Gibson I've bought new in the past several years. It had obviously been setup at the dealer. The fret ends had been touched up, string height, intonation etc was almost perfect. The strings looked brand new. My only complaint is the nut slot for G string is little high. The G#, A, and A# are just a touch sharp if you fret hard. It's an easy fix. Going to take it to a jam tonight but so far I really like it. It is quite light for a Les Paul but it rings very loud acoustically and amplified it has some great sustain. I have left the stock 490 pickups in it for now. I have a set of custom wound PAFs that will eventually go in but for now the 490s sound great while I learn the guitar's quirks. The guitar looks much better than the pics show. The finish is very glossy on the top with the worn finish on the sides and back.

Nice piece there Kerry. I notice an affection for red and tobacco burst guilts in that first pic (y)
It just worked out that way. I don't consider looks when buying a guitar. I go for tone and playability before looks. It just happened that I found a few good red ones

P.S. My last three cars have been red as well so maybe I am attracted to red.

Not quite as skinny as the third one. .800 at the first fret and .875 at the twelfth. Gibson calls it a slim taper. I used to like fat necks but as I get older my hands are starting to be arthritic. I find with slimmer necks I can play longer before needing a break. That said I can play almost any neck without too much problem. Played an acoustic 12 string for two 45 minute sets last night.

Now that's a nice looking guitar...looks like wine red. If I were you I'd leave the 490 pick ups because they are a great sounding set with a modern twist to them. They've always got a bad rap in the past because people start false rumours about them.

I like the 490s, never had a problem with them. I have a set of custom wound PAFs that have been sitting for too long now so eventually they will be in this guitar. No hurry because as you say the 490s are pretty awesome.

I don't get hand cramps from small necks, I just don't feel comfortable on them. Open chords are also a challenge on narrow necks because my fingertips completely cover a dime...

I used avoid thinner necks. Bigger the better I always said. But now I like them a lot and enjoy having some variety.
The thin ones are definitely better for fast playing/shredding but the big ones are better for digging in and feeling it.
