New Speaker(s) Day

The cabinet looks well made love the green

Thanks. Yeah, Jeff builds pretty rugged cabinets. This one is a scaled down "Hylight" style cab, using 13 ply Baltic Birch. So, the construction is similar to my Hiwatt 4122.

I love the British Racing Green. When I first bought the Solera a few years ago, I wanted a matching cab. When I had a chance to buy the U34 prototype, with the matching original cab, I jumped on it. May eventually need a second one made.

That's why I bought that $200 Crate Blue Voodoo cab, it's also an overly built Baltic Birch cab from what I have read, so speakers are more than likely the Eminence which Eminence says is basically a Private Jack. Even if they suck I will find another pair of Celestions to pair with my G12M-70's or find another set to have a quad in it. I also need a couple 16ohm for the 1x12's

I had one of those. I kept it in the rehearsal space so I didn't have to lug my Mesa cab around and damn if it didn't compare favorably with any Mesa or Marshall cab I have owned. It kicked total butt and the Eminence speakers were actually pretty great. Thing was built like a :poo:house.

I don't have the scratch for a matching Mesa cab for my Rec head at the moment (have to build my bike garage & wood is crazy!) so took a chance on it. It is suppose to be here Wed. according to the GC guy but tracking says May 24th....my 50th B-day :jammer:

It kills with a Recto - that's what I plugged into it most of the time. Sounded good with the Mark 5 too. And I tried it in stereo next to the Mesa cab (V-30s) once and got some crushing tone out of the setup. It'll move some air, that's for sure. Enjoy

Now you guys ( gball) make me want to "kill" with my Eminence loaded cab. Mine is a Crap MDF carcass with 4 Governor's in it.
I have enjoyed numerous clips of Governors, Governors and Cannabis Rex, Governors with Man O War, Man O war and Cv 75 etc etc.

Haha, you can pick these cabs up real economically these days. Nice bonus is the speakers will be well broken in.
As RobV said, the speaker is basically an unlabeled Private Jack and they are pretty much indistinguishable from a Greenback to my ear.
They're the sleeper deal of all-time.

Cool SO it has unlabeled speakers.

I never thought I would have so many speakers as I do. I have 5 10 inch Bass speakers, 1 15 incher.

Then for Guitars, I have the 2 stock 10 inch Fenders that came in my Princeton Chorus combo. The 2 Weber 10 inchers I swapped into it,

Then 8 12 inchers. 4 g12 75's for my 1960 cab, and the 4 Governors for the Berringer cab.

Yeah, they made a Celestion-loaded version also (V-30's I think), which cost more but didn't necessarily sound any better. That cab rocked and I kind of wish I had kept it.

I normally recommend that the speaker is rated 2X the power of the amp.
This is for reliability. This is also what Dan Armstrong used to tell people.
Also because I play it as loud as it will go, and melt the speakers.
I think I have toasted a lot of speakers.
I have that habit of power amp distortion. If the power tubes are not maxed out, it loses the tone.

If there is distortion pedals / booster pedals it can heat up the voice coil pretty good.

Those guys who use old cabinets with 25 watt speakers.
Some use 2 stacks of speakers, and switch over to the fresh ones every 40 minutes or so.
This gives them a chance to cool off instead of melting.
