New Speaker(s) Day

As luck would have it, I did not spend all my cash reserve on the ES-335 on Monday, and on Wednesday I saw four Celestion speakers for sale on Craigslist. I’ve been needing speakers for my green DST cabinet since October, and these fit the bill. Got two G12M-20 heritage green backs and two G12H-30 Anniversary Series speakers. Tried finding reviews of the two being used together on TGP, and they were mixed.

So, I bought them anyway. Got them in the cab on Thursday, and wired it last night. Finally tried them out today with the DST Solera 50, and they rawk! Didn’t get the volume over halfway, and they sounded great with the 335. Kicked in the Dry-Bell Engine, and what a beautiful noise. Creamy feedback for days.

I'm so F'n rude... Yes, congrats on some nice speakers and for the interesting combo of speakers. Sounds like your digging them...

I've never verified it, but I think you're suppose start by the lowest wattage speaker and then multiply that number by the amount of speakers (Is this wrong?). In your case: 80 watts... which is still more than plenty.

EDIT: It seems that our Thatbastarddon has verified it... :woohoo:

Yeah, so even at 80 I should be fine. It will only have a fifty watt amp plugged into it. Which I’m sure is also a conservative number.

A second big congratulations to @SG John !

I remember learning to sum the number of speakers by the lowest wattage rating...4 x 20 watts would safely handle 80 watts. But I’m a very silly human, and this knowledge was gleaned loooooooong ago.
;)
Yep this is correct. Amp will divide the power evenly between each speaker of same impedance. So as an example, a 100 watt tube amp that might peak at 130 - 150 watts will put minimum of 25 watts to each speaker - not great for a 20 watter.
In your case, no worries.

I have a G12 - H30 non anniversary from maybe the 80s? Nice speaker.
