EVH 5150 III EL34 50 watt. I'm still getting to know it, but so far it's fun!

I got probably the best trade in at GC I've ever gotten. I took in my MX cabs and a couple of other things and they gave me way more than I expected for them. Then he knocked quite a bit off the price of the amp and they actually owed me $40 after the deal. I couldn't believe it, I walked out of there feeling like I stole it.

Next to the white 'lil devil, it'll be like a yin & yang stereo rig.
If it turns out to be a good stereo rig I might just go ahead and get another Heritage cab and have it done up white to match my head. I'm having second thoughts about getting another 212 anyway. Carrying the MX212 downstairs and putting in my truck this morning about did me in. I didn't realize my neck had gotten so bad since it's been so long since I really tested it, but it is and I definitely pulled something out of whack. I've been in pain all day. I just can't do stuff like that anymore and it sucks.

I have the Marshall AVT cab, but that damn thing weighs almost as much as the 212. I don't think I'm going to be keeping it if only for that reason. My Mojotone cab is light and those side handles make it easy to move around.

Try the stereo set-up with the Sourmash cab under the "lil devil.
I know you're not happy with that cab on its own, but in a mix, it may sound way better.

I've been doing a lot of reading up on this amp since I didn't know a thing about it. It seems a lot of people don't like the EL34 version and it's mostly the blue channel that people have a problem with because it doesn't sound as good as it does on the 6L6 version. Now that I've got the amp and spent some time with it I see what they mean. I like the clean channel and the red channel a lot so far, but the blue channel is just "ok". Well it turns out there's a simple mod to fix it (I mentioned before), the C137 mod, which is just lifting or clipping one leg on C137 cap and that's supposed to make the blue channel the same specs as it is on the 6L6 version. Anyone ever heard of this or done this? I know my blue channel doesn't sound like this, of course I'm using different guitar, pickups and cab, but still...

I really like the foot switch to be able to switch between channels easily and not have to adjust the volume or eq between channels, which has been my experience in the past. This amp is a lot of fun, I like it better than I thought I would even after playing it in the store. I'm used to playing one trick ponies, this is not a one trick pony.

Now I have to break out my LBX 15w, it is the dreaded el84 tubes. You and I agree on the el84’s but the little amp kicks but when it’s turned up. I really have more amps than I need. lol

They had one of those there when I went to buy my amp. They were asking more for it than the 50watt I bought. I think it must have been mislabeled. I took a quick look at it, but when I saw the el84s I looked no further.
