Neighbor declared war!!

If your a renter you can get evicted

Unfortunately, that's the downside to renting or even living in what I consider the plague of mankind: an HOA. Unlike an HOA which is strictly the fault of the homeowner willfully choosing to live among one if you have to endure mindless rules, renting is a far tougher issue because you really don't have a choice and it's often all you can get in your area.

That being said, some HOAs are cool with their residents and don't try to become an autonomous government among themselves. Others though, want to control every aspect of your life. Renting however? It's a crapshoot: sometimes a lot of stuff is ignored as long as you aren't a continually disruptive neighbor, including playing music. Others? You got places where a neighbor will call the landlord if they merely hear you walking around in your own home

A house up the street was a rental. I live not far from Lewis & Clark College so figuring out who the renters were isn't a stretch.

New school year, new tenants = party time. The proverbial first time away from home sort of party...bottles breaking in the street at 1:AM, cops showing up (four times by my count) making multiple arrests for young'uns being drunk...my driveway becoming the defacto Uber Drop off Pick Up spot...

(until that is I went out and, during the course of explaining to the Uber driver how uncool using a non-consenting neighbor's property to make money is, I proceeded to unscrew the valve stem cap of a tire and then unscrew the stem part, releasing the air...when he approached me I placed a screw driver against the side wall and told him he gets to choose:
Drive away now, low on air, to the nearest "get more air place"
or
Drive away on the rim to a place to change tires...
"either way sport, you are done using my yard to do business")

Then I went inside and after getting my dog to settlle down, did some digging into who owned the house and what their phone number(s) might be. Turns out they had several.

(note to self; when becoming an absentee landlord do not incorporate and then list yourself and your law firm's business partners as corporate officers...it's much too easy to find your home phone numbers on the internet these days)

So they got a 2:AM wake up call. They grumped. I called back at 2:30 but that line didn't pick up, so I called the next. The gentleman yelled at me. I told him I was good doing this all night...and if his phone wasn't answered by a human the next time I call, I'll start calling the other partners in his law firm at their homes at unreasonable hours. He tried to push it off on a management company. I told him "you talk to them. If I'm awakened by your tenants, you, or your partners, are going to be awakended."

The following summer the house went on the market.

I just got a knock on my door from the neighbor. He wants me to keep the “guitar noise” down.

I stop playing at 9 which is well before the 10pm cut off.
I never play loud past 8 and if I do play til 9 it’s really low.
Now it’s on!
He freakin called it guitar noise!!!
NOISE?!?!?
I just got a new EVH Phaser pedal.
He has no idea what noise is.
I think my 5150iii into my 412 aimed at his wall while I practice Eruption is the order of the day.
We all know I suck at finger tapping. I think it’s time to sharpen that still for the next 2 hours.

What a douche!!
He called it NOISE!!!!
Return the favor when he’s mowing his yard at 8 am.

I've given a lot of thought to bringing this up...
The quintessential neighbor from hell.

Lady bought the house next door sight unseen for a lot over asking.
Moved herself and current iteration of husband up from the bay area and a couple months later, her 30 year old son.
He lives there a few months and then momma bought him his own digs.

After five years of seemingly normal, even friendly neighborliness she decides to do a renovation and in the process excavates 8 feet into my yard...and 12 feet down (had two small excavators going at the same time)...taking out landscaping and 35 feet of concrete walkway and stairs...my concrete walkway and stairs.

at the same time that I am hospitalized for a serum allergy reaction to a chemo med (completely paralyzed/two heart attacks). I come home to find damage done. I tell her to stop, she doesn't, I tell her to replace, she refused.

I call police and make a theft complaint..$21,000...first degree felony theft. DA declines to prosecute (did I mention that she was a substantial contributor to his first election?)

In the mean time...30 year old son is making news. It turns out she had purchased the house in order to make good on a deal with the DA in Alameda County (bay area) ...

in exchange ... for who knows($?), plus¹... the DA agreed to let her kid plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter instead of going on trial for murder 2 as originally charged...

for killing a fellow who happened to be standing next to a guy who had insulted son at some earlier time...son sees his insultor, son opens fire from across a major street outside UC Berkeley's graduation ceremony. He wounded his antagonist, he killed the guy hext to him.

¹The plus was that she gets her son out of California when he's let out after 8 years or so...hence the move up to Portland.

Anyway, about the time she is destroying part of my yard her son decide one dead guy ain't enough. He kills two in as many weeks over ... you guessed it...insults.

He was convicted of both about a year ago...

and got two consecutive life without sentences as a christmas present last December.

Meanwhile, momma got fired from her highly paid "director of facilities" job with our local mass transit authority, sold the house next door, gave son's house to her new ex-husband, and moved back to Oakland in search of her next victim love.

It seems that momma is politically connected and rather wealthy. Her name is Karen and she has a hair style befitting such a distinguished name.
I am glad that she is gone.

I have four months left before I am time barred from bringing a tort claim against her. Not sure what I'll do as I would have to fund the legal fees out of pocket while her defense would be covered by her insurance.

I was interviewed by "a federal authority" regarding the DA's decision not to pursue prosecuting her over the theft, and, her relationship with our local permitting authority, and their unwillingness to intervene when I contacted them at the time of the theft / trespass. I do not know what the criminal statute for the plethora of charges she could face might be on the federal level, but the state statute has run out.

You think you got nasty beighbors....
HAH!

I have six town houses ten feet from my back fence. A couple of months ago the owner started renting them out. The neighbor closest to my fence was arguing with her boyfriend, outside the apartment at 2 am, not five days after she moved in.

I called the landlord the next morning and told him what happened. I told him I would let it slide this once, but in the future I would be calling the police. Land lord said he didn't want that and he would talk to them. Well, I haven't seen the boyfriend since, but the lady upgraded. I saw her today with a new Golden Retriever.

I was really worried that the new units would be used on section 8's. Turns out each unit is 800 SQ ft and the rent on each unit is $1650 a month. No. Everyone in the complex has jobs. I don't have to worry about single moms with 5 baby daddies and or felons or college student just here to play football and having parties. With the exception of that first incident, the neighbors have been pretty good.

I had one guy living across the street from the front of my house that worked nights, and would have late night parties. He'd be making racket until the sun came up. He usually left for work around 5 pm.

One day, I gave him a taste. I put my AC 30 on a stand in front of my window, grabbed my Brian May Replica and treated him to Tie Your Mother Down dimed. I got through that and halfway through It's Late, when he came over and rang the bell.

Neighbors can be great or they can suck. Fortunately, I have good ones now on both sides, and in front and in back now. This neighborhood suck when I moved in here

It was around noon or so. He said he worked nights and was trying to sleep and asked if I could turn it down. I told him I was just giving him a taste of what it was like having to listen to his rowdy parties when I'm trying to sleep. He apologized and it didn't happen again.

That’s a nightmare! I hope you get that resolved some how.

But look at the bright side, at least she didn’t call your guitar playing “noise” :cautious:

If the Nieghbor wants noise show him a pic of the bag pipes your going to buy:ROFLMAO:

Once I started to "settle down" with kids and all that, I moved back to my home town into an old family house that my grandfather built. The neighborhood had changed in the 20 years or so I was away from home, and I was struggling a bit to come to grips with that.
Until one warm spring day, around dinner time, we heard the faint sound of Bagpipes coming through the window. I was instantly transported back to my childhood, listening to the same dude a couple blocks away practicing his bagpipes every evening. I had never been so happy to hear the sound of bagpipes before lol. My kids now get excited for the sound of them as well. It doesn't feel like dinner time without them.

But to tie in to the thread, as mentioned before, the neighborhood has changed a bit, and amidst the daily "community board" emails complaining about leaf blowers and lawn mowers and anything else that makes sound, the bagpipes are often included. I've since became friends with the bag pipe player and I have vowed to do unspeakable things to any neighbors that try and suppress his bag piping.

What I'm saying is, I agree, @LiveeviL2000 should take up the bagpipes
