NCD!

I'm still trying to figure out how to pull off the Depeche Mode break in method. I have a mini stereo, but not sure how to hook it up. Like, do I have to worry about Ohms, do I just splice a speaker wire to a 1/4" jack? I also don't have a Depeche Mode CD so I don't even have that option.

Depends on the stereo but 8 ohms is almost always safe. You could do that.

lso don't have a Depeche Mode CD
Phew. Thankfully!!!:D

I like vertical 2x12s too. I am shocked about the T75, they tend to be low heavy and low mids.

I got my ET65 yesterday and installed it a little while ago. I have it paired with the Veteran 30 and I put the ET65 on top based on a post I read somewhere where the dude said that the Vet 30 overpowers the ET65 in the mids and so the Et65 would be best on top.

The ET65 added some badass low end that was missing before, but so far to my ears, that's all it added. I'm missing the aggressive mids that the Veteran gives. I'm going to flip them and see if it's better.

Anyway, the 2 sound pretty good together and I see (hear) why WGS recommends the combo, but I do think these things need some breaking in so it's time to get serious about it. Dammit, now I have to go buy a Depeche Mode CD! :run:

...actually, I'm pretty sure my NIN (Pretty Hate Machine) will probably do just fine. (y) I just need to figure out how to do it and still keep the volume down for my neighbors. :hmmm:

Yeah don't buy that CD. Use something else with good bass!!

So I just put the ET65 in my 112 cab so I could hear it by itself and ...wimpy wimpy wimpy. I was expecting more bottom end because when I had it paired with the Vet 30 the bottom end was awesome, it must be the combination because it's gone now in both cabs. I put one of the 70/80s back in with the Vet 30 and it's better, but lacking something. Yep, this can o' worms is officially open, there's no turning back now! :run:

Remember when I said that I “hated” mine…until I finally broke it in. Yep…mine sounded nasally as heck…hated it with a passion. I put it alone, in its own tiny box…and only beat it up when I was in a mood. Then…one day….it started to sound “good”….then better….now…well…it sounds huge. I’ll see if I can put up something with it after dinner…I just sat down a few minutes ago. Long day.

I'm surprised you stuck with it. After what you said about it one way or another I'm determined to break it in. I've had what your saying happen to me before with the Marshall Class 5 I had. One day I was playing it and thought it just sounded better than usual and it just kept getting better quickly after that. It's the only time I've actually experienced speaker break in. But I played that amp for well over a year before that happened..

I did, and didn’t, stick with it though… I banished it to my least used/cared for place…my living room cab. I played it rarely, and quietly. Then one day, I picked up another 1x12, and it needed some company on occasion…so… out came the ET65 cab. I flogged the heck out of it for a while, then put it back in the living room. However, I noticed it sounded better, somehow. So I played through it more, up there…and brought it down to the studio more often… Then it started to sound good enough to hold its own. Now it lives under my most used amp head(for the last 13+ years-the amp head, not the cab), beside my favorite seat for noodling.

A friend of mine on another forum recommended a Celestion 70th Anniversary H30 to pair with my Vet 30. I went ahead and ordered one, but I didn't say anything because I wasn't convinced it was going to be any better and didn't want to have to admit it after.. Boy was I wrong...WOW!! What an awesome pairing! :dood:

If anyone's keeping up, I have an update. I still love the 70th Anniversary H30, but the Veteran 30 was starting to get on my nerves. I love it by itself in a 112 cab, but in the 212 cab paired with another speaker it has a fizzy top end that took me a while to figure out where it was coming from and that combined with the smooth upper mids was starting to wear on my ears.

I was was doing some research on different speakers and saw on the Celestion website that some boutique builders were pairing the Anni H30 with an Alnico Blue. So I started looking into that speaker and found it's mostly used with Vox amps and I was almost ready to dismiss the it. Then someone posted a thread on another forum asking if an Alnico blue was any good with a Marshall amp so I stuck my nose in saying I was looking at maybe getting one after what I'd read.

Well first C-Grin posted that he's using that Blue/H30 combo in a 212 cab and it sounds great. But I was concerned about how it would sound with the type on hard rock/metal I mostly play and he said it does great for hard rock. Then after another conversation I had with another guy on that forum that told me a couple of things about the characteristics of the speaker (He's also the guy that recommended the H30) I was confident enough to go ahead and order one. They're pretty pricey so I wanted to be sure.

Well it's been several days with it now trying all kinds of things from clean to high gain and everything in between and I have to say the Alnico Blue/Anni H30 pairing is absolutely f*king awesome at everything! It took the fizziness out of the top end and added a really sweet upper mid growl, exactly what I was looking for. I'm done now, I couldn't be happier. :dood:
