I ordered a MX212A cab to use with my SC20H and it arrived today. I bought the 112 version not long ago and I really like it so I got the 212. I've never had a cab with more than one speaker in it so I'm pretty happy with how much bigger it sounds!

As you may know, it comes with 2 Celestion 70/80 speakers. At first is was very dark and (IMO) lifeless, no top end, I had to dial the bass way down and turn up the treble and presence, but I got it sounding pretty good. It wasn't what I was expecting since my 112 wasn't like that with the 70/80 in it, in fact I almost left it in there, but I swapped it for a WGS Veteran 30 (my favorite "single" speaker). I'm thinking about putting it back since I just stole the Veteran 30 to try in my 212. Maybe it's because the 112 is ported in the baffle that it didn't sound as dark? I don't know, anyway...

So I swapped out the speakers and put in my Veteran 30 and an old ('82) G12T-75 I've been looking for a place for for years. Now it was completely opposite with these speakers, no bottom end and very thin and fizzy sounding, not good. So...I left the Veteran 30 in, but replaced the G12T-75 back to a 70/80. It's much better this way, but I'm still going to replace the other 70/80 soon. I contacted WGS to see what they suggest based on the type of stuff I play and they recommended the same thing they recommend on their website so I'm going to order a ET65 to pair with the Veteran soon.

Now I wonder if it makes a difference which speaker goes where, top and bottom.

And now...the required N"gear"D photo.

Nice rig!
I have an ET-65 in a 1x12 these days(a fairly small 1x12 cab, no ports). It’s become one of my favorite WGS speakers. I haven’t tried the Veteran 30, but I have Reapers(regular, and 55Hz), GreenBeret, and HM-75(discontinued) kicking around.

I had a Green Beret and a Reaper before, but I sold them. I like the Veteran 30 a lot! I'm looking forward to trying the ET65. I've never played a Creamback.

What's the difference between the regular and the 55hz reaper? I can't find anywhere where it says 55hz on the reaper specs, are you talking about the 50watter? I was just rereading the email I got from WGS (Trevor) and I had forgotten that he said this...

"As an alternate recommendation, the Reaper HP is also very solid. It's a bit tighter in the low end than the ET65, and has a fuller midrange response."

Now I'm not sure if I want to try the ET65 or the Reaper HP. :hmmm: ...or both!

It’s discontinued. I’m told they might make them on request. It’s kinda like the “bass” version used to be on the old Greenbacks…but a little different speaker design, overall. There’s at least one comparison video out there…gimme a minute…

I think the 55hz is probably what I had. It was so bassy I couldn't use it. I had it in an open back cab and it didn't work for me at all.

Nice cabinet! I like that it's a vertical 2x12, so you get that slant cab sound projection. Congrats!

Perhaps. I got mine because my small-box 2x12 sounded too thin to my ears…I was gigging regularly with it, and using small amps…all for laughs. Lots of homemade pedals, then I built my 18watt…it sounded great on that cab. So does my 22watt Phaez. Don’t get me wrong, I would take my 1960b in a heartbeat…but even a 2x12 would get you looked at funny in some of the dive bars we played, nevermind a DualRec half stack. If you carted in a half stack, they’d kill the breakers. It became all about not drowning out the patrons, and employees.

I just ordered a WGS ET65 to pair with the Veteran 30 in this cab. I have my fingers crossed that it's the right choice. :ohno: :fingersx:

Now I just need to figure out which one should be on top and bottom. Cab is a bitch to open, I really don't want to do it twice.

Edit: I also ordered some metal side handles for it, the plastic ones that came on it came with some of the corners already cracked.

I hated my ET65….until I finally got it broken in. I was not educated in the power of the Depeche Mode at the time, and it took a long time(mostly because I hated it), but one day……it came to life. Now….it‘s one of my favorites.
