There is a good video clip of the Pasadena 18 doing some VanHalen on YouTube(I guess it’s meant to be a “brown sound” amp). Decent sound quality. Clips are hard to come by for a lot of his stuff...but there are some good ones, if you search hard enough.

That one did sound great! I think I am sold and maybe by next week my order will be in. I am digging all the demo's I have flipped on. That Pasadena would be perfect for the available cab but no loop. Not that I really care. I am digging this Daisycutter 18 demo I have on right now.

The second recording, the recent one on Room Mic Test, doesn't come across as well, to me, as the first. The playing is great and the general texture is great, but a tad harsh; feels in the modern metal space which probably isn't my thing.
The clean channel from clip 1 is really nice, but the second channel does appear to have that 'crystal hardness???' of a modern metal style (I don't know what I'm talking about here...) which I'm not personally that fond of? Maybe it's just the way the second recording was set up?

Yeah, the cab is a bit bright with this amp...a bit strident. I could have rolled off the higher frequencies a bit, but I didn’t for this exercise. The cab records well enough to me...good clarity and definition. If I was placing these tracks in to a full band context, I would have trimmed things up a little.
The Phaez definitely likes the Recto cab, and the Marshall 1960 too(that’s what I used tonight...much fatter sound...not as crispy around the edges).

That's a good way of putting it - probably is perfect in a mix, but not the solo bedroom players sound.

I understand what your talking about, there are some other Daisycutter demo's going into the AC/DC-ZZ top area and others. Grump there is an open box RD45 on Reverb here for $300! I am really liking these handwired Phaez's though.I love that SG...

I don’t know what to tell you. I haven’t dragged it out to play a gig yet, but I know my gear well enough to know that I could. It does well enough at rehearsals so far. I can get a variety of sounds out of it(I just lean toward the heavier end...with a dose of clean...typically)
So far it has performed well. The tubes it came with are not what I would normally choose, but I have some spares now. When I get tired of these, or if I hear anything odd, I’ll dig in and do some tube rolling. 6V6 are new to me though.

I really rate the Randall amps. I wish I'd never sold my RD - zero head room.

I had a RVC5 combo, bought for $100 because the combo cab was cracked. I had 5 or so amps here and at that time I don't think eSGEe had a tube amp so I sent it down there & Chili may have it now? Not sure but that RVC5 was the same way, the only difference is the RVC doesn't have all the outputs to connect direct in it like the RD did. It was a cool amp though.

The Daisycutter gets up there with gain, but it’s just not the same. It’s close though.
I think I’m going to pull the Silver Horse from the board, and go back to the Red Llama for a bit...to see what I get. The Red Llama was never described by anyone as strident, or ice picky.
Then, I’m betting I’d get in to some good territory...if not, I still have a Tube Screamer variant kicking around.
More-better clips to come...I think. And I’ll try to go easy on the Toolish stuff.

Waiting for me today, as I arrived home from work, was a really well packed box. Inside, was a Phaez Duophonic. It’s a two channel beast, pushing out 22 watts via two 6V6 tubes. One channel is a fairly clean, Blackface-ish thing, called a Corona. The second channel is fairly high gain, lots of usable gain, called a Daisycutter. It has an effects loop. It’s actually foot-switchable. It even has a head cab. Although purple is not my first choice, I still have some black vinyl dye and I know how to use it.(this guy sells a lot of bare chassis amps for fairly short money). He even threw a simple foot switch in the box(it didn’t say that one was included, so I was pleasantly surprised).
I’m just getting acquainted right now. :dood:

I want to thank @alligatorbling for re-kindling my interest in these amps.
First impression, from running it through a 2x12(pictured), loaded with some old WGS Reapers(one regular, the other a 55Hz version)...Crisp! Responsive! Solid! LOUD!
The clean channel takes pedals like a champ. Muff, and clean boost sound great. Delay, reverb, and my Shaky Jimi sound great in the loop.
Next session will be through the usual Marshall 1960 straight cab...then maybe over to the Recto cab...then.....
Now I have to get back to running this thing through, probably, every cab I own...
This could take a while.
I just seen this. This is one sharp look'n head - I'd want it no matter how it sounds...
