I have been using my BOSS Katana 50 at rehearsal for the last maybe 6 months. It is very versatile and virtually any of the BOSS pedals can be downloaded and stored to one of 4 different “channels”. Five channels if you switch back to the settings currently on the amps user panel. What’s not to love?

Well, member Leedspool has been having WAY too much fun with his new Traynor 40W tube combo and frankly, I am more than a bit jealous!

I picked up a used Peavey Classic 30 tweed 1x12 combo today.

I prefer to use my pedalboard instead of the built in BOSS effects so I think that, in conjunction with the really good clean channel and more than dirty enough dirt channel on the Peavey, I will have my bases covered.

This is a fairly old Classic 30, as the more recent ones had the 'cyclops' front panel and the tube cage in the back. There is an aftermarket tube cage for the earlier ones and I would strongly recommend getting one. The biggest weakness of the Classic 30 is blowing tubes due to excessive vibration, given the proximity of the tubes to the speaker. Tom's Tube Tamer went out of production but you could make your own if you can't get the post-2008 factory retainer from Peavey.

The Peavey one is a lot better, it screws into the cabinet. I think the silicone rings would improve it though, together with a thicker piece of the heat resistant foam or maybe a spacer under the foam to provide more pressure

I am not exactly sure of the year but it is definitely a previous version of the amp.
It still has the sh#@%y Chinese tubes in it. I will have to check my stash to see if I have others around.
Very cool USA-made amp! Congrats...

Don't discount the Chinese-made tubes... unless they really do test bad or are worn out. As far as reliability and quality, they are as good (Or bad!) as any current Russian or Slovakian made tubes. NOS tubes is a whole different approach if you can afford it.

I got one directly from Peavey a few years ago .. Was like 30 bucks and it came with a nice pc of that groovy red high temp foam for the tube tips too !!!

Thanks for the advice Dave. I will see what I can find to do the job!
