NAD! EVH III 50 Watt Steallth

To
I think you'll love it. It really does do it all.
To be fair, the slightly larger Mesa Triple Crown does as well.
I also really like my little Yamaha THR100 HD I rarely use clean so really, 2 good distortion channels is almost a must.
The BluGuitar Amp 1 Iridium pedal amp is remarkable sounding too and obviously very compact.
But I don't really have to justify getting or not getting one. I'll pick up the stock unit tomorrow. Odds of me not keeping it after trial are slim to none. :D

Where do you have your bias set? A guy posted in my thread on MF that he likes his set at 53mV. I had mine set to 58, close to the recommended 60, but today I set it lower at 53.5 and, wow, what a difference it made! It took some of the smoothness and thickness out of the low end and gave it some crunch and bite...there's that Marshallness I was missing! It was great before, but man it sounds killer now and has a nice feel, not so stiff.
I haven’t touched the bias on it.
To answer your question. I don’t know what it’s set to.

I'm just thinking out loud here, don't take it too seriously. I have to be honest. The more time I spend with it the more I'm thinking I may have bought the wrong version. I didn't know the Stealth was different internally, I thought the only differences were the black look and high gain preamp tubes. I think maybe the regular 6L6 version is what I should've gotten. I just wish is wasn't white, but I guess it doesn't look too bad. It's cheaper, too. We'll see, I have 40 days left to decide if I want to return and swap it...

I hear you laughing, Jimi. :rolf2:

RAMO!!!! I was hoping you would chime in when I was trying to decide between the Stealth or the ENGL Fireball 25. But that's ok, I'm glad I went with the EVH.

Why? In what way? I think there is a black 6L6 version as well with a white faceplate. Is there something wrong sounding with this version?

I suggest no more research? Set it how ya like and play! I'm gonna pick one up tomorrow and try it against others of mine
I'm trying to find info on what each preamp tube is for. It's my understanding now that the Stealth version is indeed internally slightly different from the other versions and the preamp tubes functions are one of the things that is supposedly different. There isn't much info out there on the Stealth version, everything I find is about the regular version.

I suspect each tube does the same? Perhaps they just have more signal going into 1 tube or such to get a slight bit more gain?
You can tell I know technically what goes on in an amp. :p :D

Bias setting makes a huge difference. I had set the bias to 53.5mV the other day and thought it sounded really good, but then when I played it yesterday it didn't sound as good. I think that's what discouraged me and prompted my comment this morning. When I went to experiment some more today I saw that it had drifted back up to 55, which explains why it didn't sound as good to me. I don't know why it drifted back up. Anyway I played around with it some this evening, I tried settings between 45 and 60 just to see what it would do. For me, when it's set between about 54 to 60 it sounds too thick and smooth in the lows and the highs are harsh to my ears, anything lower than about 50 it gets wimpy. I have it set at 52 right now, it sounds GREAT and the crunch is back!
