NAD! EVH III 50 Watt Steallth

Interesting…from 5150 to Plexi…quite a pivot. Nice…
I really didn't want to wait for a new Chupacabra to be built (6 weeks or more) so I looked for a used one on Reverb. They didn't have a Chupa, but I did find a 50 watt King Kong, which is like the next level above the Chupa. I ordered it, wish me luck! :fingersx:

Looks nice! Watched the big demo, and it seems to tick many tonal boxes. I hope those boxes are what you’re looking to have ticked…seems likely. Two(sorta three, really) channels of beastly fun sounds pretty sweet to me.

My Lil' Devil proved to me that I'm a Hot rod Plexi guy, I tried to go another route, but I haven't found "it" in anything else I've tried. I don't see how this beast could possibly disappoint, but stranger things have happened. I'm holding my breath and crossing my fingers. :fingersx:

Steve, Please don't take this comment the wrong way. I get the feeling as you start to age a bit (now in reference I'm older than a crust of bread), that maybe your ears would really appreciate hearing from a power section of 6550's or maybe 6CA7's instead of the ordinary EL34's or 6L6's. Never mind how the push to them is achieved.

I hope that one quenches your thirst so to speak Steve.

I think this is a much better fit. I've been playing with it all afternoon figuring out what all the switches and knobs do. This thing is definitely not a one trick pony. So far so good!

Congratulations!!!

Now you need an appropriately sized cab….;)
Thanks! I have plans to get an EVH 212 cab. I've just been lazy about getting it done. Honestly, I've been really discouraged with the whole amp thing and lost my motivation for a while there. Things are staring to look up now. I like the EVH cab because of it's size and I've only ever heard good things about them. This amp should sit nicely on top.

I'm actually having a great time on channel 1. With the gain dimed and an OD or boost I'm getting some great hard rock tones, then if I turn off the OD and back off the guitar volume it cleans up nicely. And of course there's everything in between. This is a fun amp, way more my style than the Stealth was. I'm really happy so far.

The hallmark of a good amp! Sounds like you have found something especially useful. I hope this feeling continues for you.

Sorry I missed your post, Terry. I think you're right. I did like 6550s a lot when I had my SC20. Not sure where they fit in, but I also liked KT88s. I also really like 6v6s.

So I got my EVH cab yesterday. I bought it used and to my surprise, some idiot sold this cab with a pair of Alnico Cream speakers in it. The speakers are worth more used than I paid for the cab. :rolf:

I don't even like them so I'll be selling them to get my money back for the cab, lol. I've replaced them with my Creamback 65s and all I can say is my 65s have never sounded as good as they do in this cab. It's a keeper for sure. I removed the EVH badge. All I have to do now is finish peeling the 5150 tag off, I've got it about halfway loose, but it's really glued on there good, then figure out how to get the rest of the adhesive off without damaging the grill cloth and I'll be all set. It looks like it was made to match this amp.

I've also ordered some black knobs with white markers for the amp. I can't see where these gold tip knobs are set because of glare. Once I get my knobs and it's all finished I'll post a NAD thread so it has it's own place. I've never been happier with a set up, I think I've got it now.
