'My Wall' Thread

Do you guys think i should stick with my typical amps ? Since its 20 songs & many dif ideas. I was thinking of using a Dual rec, 6505 & JCM 800. My buddy & i swap amps for fun. Will have to let him pick 3 of mine. Cept the JMP & Super Reverb never leave,,

During yesterday's session, the guys wanted a much heavier sound than we get normally, so.i took my Line 6 HD75 head and plugged it into the isolation cabinet. I gotta say, that Line 6 is hard to beat and required no pedalboard...

Its funny in a way, how when i use "forbidden," non-traditional gear, i get such great results.

Maybe try something different???

Wow, i am nudging also...just went to my buddies & put my main riffs on the guitar into his JCM 800 with a maxon 808 & lil delay.. and reamped everything played yeaterday...we mic'd a jcm 800 cab from the 80's...freaking is what i was looking for !!

came home & starred at the amps said wonder if i just need an iso for the cabs & a few heads& start learning how to put some time in the mixing..such a player & not techie...lol

I keep coming back to non-traditional things and getting the best results. Not long ago, a job required a "super-clean" guitar track. I happened to keep my Line 6 HD75 at one of the studios where i work, so i used it.

Normally, we record everything dry, but the onboard effect quality (tape echo) was so organic, that we used it. That cheap, HD75 was every bit as clean as a Roland JC-120.

The only thing "wrong" with my gear - like my Schecter C1-FR, my Faux Paul or my HD75 - is that people have become programmed to think you can only get a good sound from rare and/or expensive gear.

For example, Engl amps absolutely kill Marshall's - especially the older 2203 JCM800's. We've sat and listened to hours of playback (with many colleagues) and never - not once - has anyone chosen the old Marshall's by tone alone.

Producers have said, "we want a tube Marshall used for this recording," but when we actually evaluate the recording blindly - by sound quality alone - the old Marshall's don't make the cut.

We just chuckle and say. "Ok..."

You need to add a BBE Sonic Maximizer 482i to your rack...its the 4th unit down (white face with red stripe) and it really enhances tone and balances volume levels. When you switch it on during a playback, its almost unbelievable what it does to a track. It adds this "four dimensional" quality to the audio...

thanks !! have been coming across those reading about the 80's lately & a Furman pq hitting the 800's

Weird working from song 4 to 5... then backwards. here is 5, Familiar, ... in the Saga. Want to do,WTF, the intro song next but might have to back down to it to tie the theme together ..dont want to have to radical change as the story moves . Interesting chose, 6 ft to Safety to start on but the song is big in a way & will stick maybe, Now have to go back & build to it.

Moving right along.. 'There" song 3 in the progression. pretty interesting.. have the whole first side in my head, Getting it extracted out in continuity & flow is a challenge. When you apply a story to music,,sometimes what comes out alters the idea of the song. Just rolling with it. Going to be a lil heavier than originally intended.

1:05 I love that chunk change, gives the song a new beginning

2:00 minute mark grabs a cool 70’s vibe, love this project.
Great work brother.

Remember it well one of the last times we played at this place called the Woodstock, they put a mic on my amp and told me to turn down, I shut the mic off and turned my volume up 1 more notch ,, ha ha it was great.
Thanks

Song 2 will be So Sad, working on this ..sense this is the real foundation of the Saga. Have next one in structure in Reaper now, but think it will be for Side 2.

Waiting too do WTF, the intro & narrative as i see what general theme is coming out..so can reintroduce it at the Final song & Outro..bring the chordal structure from Intro & tie the whole Saga together from end to end.

This was the thing my life needed. Goals to meet..hard part is the phone calls..always when you hit the record button..lol

so we have

2) So Sad--( the activating Event)
3) There --( the contemplation)
4) 6 Ft to Safety ( the mystery..did he do the hotshot)
5) Familiar (in a daze..he looks down on himself..wondering if he has the will to even want to come back)

Interesting as you play things pop out, this one , DEMISE, will be song 8 in the story, Character is really at the threshold of questioning some basic things. The Dean Ml & DF'ers is just such an easy playing rytyhm machine & the Epi V & PAF Masters into a jmp, just knew that was going be a great lead set up. The Epi V is a great guitar..as i experience this new batch..the V's balance so well, you can hardly tell you have it on. The fretbard access is the best.

Guess the story is rolling abut 50% of side 1 is done with all the negative stuff.. The saga is kinda that way in general. Side 1 is the mess & side 2 might clean it up but as i explore this concept..might not want to..cause life is still a mess & might leave the writing exploit that but do a few positive ones abut the blessings of being clean & sober tho. What a trip this is, using the drums now & slowly incorporating it into the mix. getting the kick & toms down. Think that is when the real music making will happen. The drums start it all for me & having to learn them is teaching me a lot. Thinking of bring a male singer in before its so far down the line i lose the feel
