Music You Like

Best thing I've discovered over the last year is this great unsung alternative trio from the late 80's, early-mid 90's.
Totally off my radar then.





Every turn of the corner with them there's new cool stuff to discover. Fantastic storytelling, great dynamics, grooves and musicianship. My new favorite band and practically no guitar. Frontman Mark Sandman played a two string bass with a slide. Nutty!

They were really quite popular around the DC area at the time. Got a lot of attention from the local "alternative" station, WHFS and you would hear them played in most clubs and coffee shops.

Crazy how Sandman died.
 
@gball ... yes sad tale, after a touristy hike/climb on tour... apparently he suffered severe stomach pain for most of his career, much like Cobain.

The weirdest part of my discovery story: a 20 year old drummer for my son's teen band, (who is also quite a guitarist and spookily
phenomenal at guitar set-up and who was transitioning at the time) introduced me to this band from 30 years ago.

Fellow has since ceased his transition confusion. The dude is 6' 3" tall and built like a linebacker. Tough to find the right clothing I guess.

Texting with him the other day he sent me a pic of his latest pick-up ... one of those Dan Armstrong Lucite guitars. Kid lived a tough tough life growing up...
No dad, mom has lots of "issues." He's now training to be a power grid lineman. I am extremely proud and happy for him.

Haven't seen one of those in a minute. Seems to even have the obligatory Super Distortion in it!
 
A blast from the past.
I saw the Lovin' Spoonful play live at the United States Coast Guard Academy gymnasium in 1967. Despite the terrible/horrific gymnasium room acoustics, a crowd of 2000 enjoyed the show. OMG! That was 58 years ago.
Anyway, they opened their set with...

Uhm. Yes!! Pictures is the reason I’m a rocker. One of my first records I purchased is a 45 with Picture of Matchstick Men on it. More or less I can play it… to the point I have the drums and keyboards on a backing track and I’m going to do the bass and guitars. And just maybe, eventually share it here.
