Mouse Droppings

This one is a bit different for me. I initially set out to only cover the guitar parts but as it was a fairly easy tune, I thought I'd also give the bass a try. From memory I didn't remember any Chris Squire type runs so I figured it would also be fairly easy. Wrong! I'm no bass player by any stretch and need to use a pick as my right hand sucks so this was more challenging than I initially gave it credit for (respect Graham Maby). For most of the fills I didn't worry too much about getting things note for note but instead focused on the spirit (and positions) of Maby's lines. In the end it was a lot of fun and it lit a fire under me to do more bass in future covers.

Like me. Had a bass for about 30 years and just this past year actually picked it up to play it. And right now I'd have to improve a lot just to be considered a beginner. But it has been fun.

Yeah it's not something I regularly think of playing but I'd like to start using it more. While I'm sure proper bass players would scoff at it, that short scale Squier is a nice transition from guitar and my left hand doesn't feel like it's stretching into the next room when I play it. :D

Don’t know of anyone here that would scoff. And at the end of the day you’re really the only one you need to impress… so have fun with whatever. I do that on a regular basis.

The bass. Lol. That’s how I find most bass lines. More involved than expected. Always a learning experience.

Nice job Mouse.

I'm in the same boat. The only time I play my bass is when I'm recording. And then my fingers hurt lol.

This 'proper' bass player actually prefers playing short scale basses much of the time nowadays.
Check this little thingy out:

That's an Müb Miezo 18/6 ... (18" scale 6 string 'octave' bass tuned B E A D G C).
Everything on this track except for drums was done with the Miezo:

This one has been on my list forever but to be honest I've put it off for so long as it seemed pretty daunting. Given all the guitar tracks Page played, I was able to create a rhythm guitar track which really helped get the structure of the song under my fingers and into my brain. This is basically what should be played by a 12 string (don't have one unfortunately). From there that made learning the lead guitar parts easier. I tried to get the most important parts pretty close to the original and the rest I just played in a similar style or position.

The rhythm guitar (which is 2 tracks panned left/right was using a crunch patch on my BR-800 recorder. I stepped on chorus during the "I had a dream" parts to sort of give it the chimey tone of a 12 string. The lead guitar I built using my Boss ME-90 starting with a mildly overdriven British Stack amp and then stepped on an OD for the solos.
