Mouse Droppings

Thanks guys!

@GrooVey I wish I were one of those where it came easy. The hardest part was the intro lick to the 2nd solo (Adrian’s). I’ve played that wrong for years. It’s not hard technically but it’s got a certain timing and feel that I could never get. I think I spent as much time on that part as the rest of the song as I was determined to get it close.

Like many, I’ve been down an Ozzy/Sabbath rabbit hole since Ozzy’s death which admittedly hit me harder than I would have expected. This period has Ozzy’s voice at arguably its finest and Iommi is his usual riff-master self. I’m sure there will be more in the weeks to come as I continue to reminisce of the great Oz!

I used my Boss ME-80 to trigger on/off the rotary effect. For the solos I mostly just improvised with unusually pentatonic wankery. Iommi’s solos to my ear aren’t so memorable that they need to be played note for note. I typically just improvise them and try to keep a similar feel and vibe.

Here’s the full version of a riff I posted in the Name that Riff thread earlier this week. I ended up recording 4 versions of this and chose the best two (which still have a few flubs). I used a volume pedal for the swells despite Adam using the volume knob. The wah is from my Boss ME-80.

It’s a long one for sure but riff-wise nothing terribly complicated beyond the usual Tool odd meters.
