Most recognizable tone?

Tone you know anywhere, from the first couple of notes?
Brian May
Dave Gilmour
Ritchie Blackmore
Tony Iommi
Michael Schenker
Angus and Malcolm Young
Steve Ray Vaughn
EVH
Jimi Hendrix
Slash
Zakk Wylde

Lots of others but i can hear anyone of those guys and within 2 seconds know who it is

Zakk Wylde was the first that came to mind when I read the thread title, he’s my favorite shredder but he definitely over saturates his tone with effects. On the flip side, you can’t mistake him for anyone else, the second he starts playing you know who it is and honestly I think that’s 85% of why he uses the effects he does.

Definitely! Pretty simple signal chain to get the basic tone but his pinch harmonics with lots of chorus is unmistakable

The only one on that list that I would recognise at all would be Brian May. I'd never even heard of SRV until I joined a guitar forum. I know who the rest are, but haven't listened to rock for a long time.

People say that my stuff sounds like Aaron Aedy from Paradise Lost. I wasn't consciously going for that but then I found out later that he uses the same pickups I use, and a Schecter isn't a million miles away from an LTD ...

One name that I'm kinda surprised hasn't been mentioned is Rory Gallagher. That Strat into Rangemaster into Vox AC30 tone is easily as "instantly recognisable" as Iommi's SG into Rangemaster tone is. Cheers

There is a video clip (maybe an interview) of Brian May explaining how, as a young guy he discovered the makings of his signature tone.
After seeing a Rory Gallagher performance he had approached Rory as he was packing up his gear, & asked him how he got that raw tone. Rory told him it's really simple, I have this Vox AC30 amplifier & this little Rangemaster treble booster that I plug into, & that's it.
Brian May went out & bought a beat up Vox AC30 & a Rangemaster, wondering if it would work the same with his red special guitar. Plugged in & Bam, there it was. He's used the same setup ever since. Cheers
