Meanwhile... at Sweetwater...

Six String

Well-Known Member
Before I start posting about the Gear Fest, I wanted to relate (maybe rub in a little...) a few of the goodies I happened to come across. I have music stands for those times they are needed, but they are beginning to show their age. So, what better time to pick up some new ones since about EVERYTHING is reduced for the Fest. Instead of getting the ones I normally got... some 20 years ago... I looked at some others that have a double extension rather then the single my current ones have. If you do an outdoor gig and use one on a hill, you can adjust them to level. Cool!

I tried to resist the Sure mics they ALWAYS have in the deal zone... but unfortunately it got the better of me. Since I have 3 Sure 57's still in the box and a 58 in the box, I figured I should pick up at least 1- 58 to get them equaled out... (The logic works for me) But the kicker is that they sell for $58 (The 57's for $57) you almost can't afford NOT to get one. So I did.....

There were a few other things like some "heavy duty 10's" for the Witch to hopefully solve my breaking string issue at the B-5, and a few small things which are normal pick up items when you go into Sweetwater and say... "well, since I'm here".

But the important item which came home with me is really cool. I bought the AC10 to help me with my stage sound and for most shows it does ok. I have used it at some shows that I needed to push it and I start hearing a little stain on the poor baby. Especially in a drummer situation. I went to a few of the equipment seminars they had and a dude out of Ohio I have seen for the last few years there, was demoing some of the new Vox stuff... one in particular. It is called the MV50. I had not seen these before (but I lead a sheltered life...) and watched him closely. The sounds he got out it amazed me! Especially out of 2- 8" speakers........

This little rig is amazing! 50W of power and being the "AC" model, it has a very cool clean but will turn around and get dirty.

As shown, this is the AC model and it comes in a Rock version and a Clean version. they each cover more of the ends of the AC. I haven't given it a full workout yet, but am really happy with the sounds I'm getting and the power of this little puppy.... and my back is thanking me too! I will be giving it the maiden voyage this coming weekend as I have a Rock gig coming up.

I'll come back after the workout and report.

BTW... when I saw these, my first thought was of the Vox Amp Plug, of which I have 3. They are kind like an Amp Plug........... but on some MEGA steroids! :dood:

HEy SIX that is a lovely Beastie! (not to steal your Thunder--but Sp8ctre has been teasing us with his MV50 for a week or two now) ---- :)

you guys are givin me da GAS,

Hey Six nice MV50! I got the Clean version and I love it. It will even make a 4x12 Cab scream!

No thunder to steal... it's all good when you rock on the way you want. I was wondering about the "Beastie" running other cabinets... big thanks for the input. I have already been thinking about "alternatives". It appears to have a pre-amp type output that will allow me to run into another amp... like maybe the AC10. My minds working..........

I got the AC because I do have a very wide variety of musical sound I need and use. The Clean was too clean and the Rock was too growlie... but the AC was just right! :celebrate2:

Did you get a free Shire mic with that MV50?

If it sounds as good as an AC10 then it must be very good.

Can you do a Side by Side Six?

I would really like to hear the MV50 VS the AC10 in a shootout......

When are the pics coming? Just talked to my rep today and he was worn out from Gear Fest!

But not to tired to sell me a Boss Katana 100 Head and a Roland GA-FC Foot Controller...
Sweet, I just picked up a Katana 50 last week.

Very impressive little 25 pound package.

Is GearFest™ something like WurstFest or Oktoberfest, except for gear replacing beer? I may grill some worst today in honor of GearFest™!

Even better GM...... you end up with stuff afterwards! Can take care of GAS, NAD, EPS (Effects Pedal Syndrome) and many other aliments one may be stricken with. You come out feeling great! You don't end up with SOP (Shoulda Ordered Purchased).

I had a chance to sit down with the MV50. I didn't fire up the AC10 for a comparison, but I know what it will do and think I can see the diff now.

The MV50 (for my applications) is dynOmite! The first and most obvious is it is much lighter then anything I currently have. (1 in the plus column) The second is that it must be dialed in which tells me that you are not stuck with factory settings that don't work for you. Without my DR880 effects (going straight into it, the gain control gives a sweet clean side and by adding the gain it gives the growl of the dirty side for what I do. But this is not my normal set up, so I plugged in the DR880 and immediately heard the sound attack that can put it in your face! It is really a butt kicking 50W. I found the lower gain on the MV50 gives me my "clean sound" (which normally includes verb, st. chorus, and phase shift)... but I played with the gain and it adds an interesting addition to the "clean" setting that I think adds a depth. In turn, my "dirty sound" on either pup again had more depth. And I found that I could add or delete the MV50 gain as needed to give addition tone to my settings. At all settings it was very awesome! I give it 3 thumbs up. And it surprises me the amount of sound coming out the 2 8" speakers. I think it did better then some of my two twelve cabinets.

As far as comparing it to the AC10, it to me is not really an apples to apple thing. The AC10 gives me most of what the MV50 does but I have already seen that I start losing some of the tone and control just under 50% on the volume. Most of the time I had the MV50 at about 25% and gain at about 25% and the blend and control was still right there. As I started increasing the volume I lost none of the tone, sound or control as I find the AC10. I look forward to using it this coming Friday at our next gig. I really think it is going to kick some major Boot'ie! :dood:

In my opinion it will certainly do a better job for what I want to do... and still give me plenty of power when I need it. I wouldn't have the same confidence in the AC10.
