Me, too.I like it. But then my favorite guitar is oiled unfilled mahogany. I kinda dig raw.

Especially for a beater.Hmm, good question...I don't doubt it happened and it probably was this guitar, but I have no recollection of that at all. That's the guitar you ALMOST sold me,,,right?
It’s looking rich! Shame about the grain not popping but still looks nice. Demure, understated beauty. It's growing on me
Do you plan on a clear coat? You may still get a nice 3d effect.
Ditto…I am really liking the black hardware.
Looks excellent @DirtySteve
I haven't done anything else today. I've been staring at it all day trying to figure out what to do because I'm not happy with it as is. I've been looking at pics all day and I've seen some good examples of what's going on with the stain not going on evenly. Seems to be common on some Gibsons, but they kind of hide it and I see it now. I was on the right track, but I started the tru-oil before I figured it out and it's too late now. I know what to do, but it involves sanding it back down and starting over....again.![]()

I wouldn’t kick that to the curb…but I’m weird like that. Here's a good example of what I'm talking about with the stain being blotchy like mine is doing...

That’s a function of the grain. Was this guitar a Gold Top, did you say? Here's a good example of what I'm talking about with the stain being blotchy like mine is doing...

You sand that thing down again and it’s causing me to want to light it on fire View attachment 109520
