LP, To cover or not to cover?!

As a kid, before the internet, I used to buy Hit Parader magazine just to find info on Angus and AC/DC. Then one day, there it was, Angus on the Magazine cover......And his SG didn't have pickup covers. It blew me away.

I like uncovered SG's.....But I love, covered ones!! Actually, I think I like all guitars!!

Wow, what a difference. Love love the tone now. I didn't even adjust them yet. I just slapped them in, and plugged in. Yet they sound awesome. They're only going to get better after some adjustments. Feel like I made a great choice.

Very nice! Man, I just cannot get over that birds eye maple top. So simple and elegant. Congrats on a great looking and apparently great sounding ax. Any chance of a sound sample?

Thanks RVA!!! I concur.

I'll get a sample going. I recorded a few with my phone before the swap. I'll do one after. Just need to figure out how to post it.

Can't say as I like the looks of the change, Bocc. Not that I hate it or anything, I just have to get used to how it looks all covered up and shiny.............. But IF you get a sound you are happier with, that is what matters most.
Any plans for the 57's?

I have an ironic confession to make re: covers.
I actually bought my own set of covered pups from Johnny Goo.
One is a 498T and the other a Lindy Fralin Pure PAF :D

Chilli...oh Chilli. You broke my heart
Haha, lol
Yea, I hear ya man. It's amazing how something so simple as covers changes the look completely.

The fact is, my original concept at the beginning of this project, was to have covers. Then last minute I decided to build a Classic as it should be. But, it turned out the 57's didn't have the punch I craved. So when I replaced the pickups, I couldn't convince myself not to ad covers.

As for the 57's, I was going to put them out on the cheap, but now I guess I'll just toss them in a draw. u never know what may come up.

I'm hoping to get another husk some day. I had fun with this. My current choice is, another LP, or a Flying V.
Damn, I think a V would be rocking. :dood:

I do think the covers give more class to a very classy guitar. Some guitars that have a 4 wheel drive off road look can pull of no covers if the two halves match. Traditional things like pick guards, covers and bindings dress it up. The 335 guitars and all with that foot print beg to look finished. My one knob Wolfgang can look ready with out tuner knobs. Tune the turd with pliers. My last work and all around great guy the happy red guitar is getting locking tuners. I play tonight and I get home at 11:43 so I might put them on. I will be too tired to go to mass then and straight to hell! I might put them on tomorrow.

It's been a few months now, and I've been thinking. I do miss the old look of the zebra 57. This guitar was born for that look, they just didn't have the punch.

So, what do I do with the old pickups..

1- sell them .... I'm not big on moving music equipment. I do accept offers though.

2- put them in a draw until I get a guitar that needs them....how long will that take.

3 - Put them back in the lp....not bloody likely.

4 - Or, build a guitar around them. Ohhhh, a loophole...The perfect excuse!!!
