LP, To cover or not to cover?!

Good choice. T-Tops are the best pickups ever made.

Gball, I HAD to get the T Tops, I HAD to.
Since I have not been able to reacquire my original very first ever guitar, my 1979 Les Paul that had them. I did the next best thing and coughed up kinda big money and got the 1979 T Tops.

The funny thing I always remember was that this guitar sat in the store over 2 years before I bought it. The price was not exorbitant to keep it undesirable, but maybe a few little niggly things might have been the reason. I think I paid somewhere around $349 or $369 and was 99% happy but wanted to make the guitar overcome the flaws I later found once I owned it awhile. Gladly I was able to fix the tailpiece bushing issue and then let the luthier do the Bone nut and setup work after I installed the T Tops.

IMG_4039.JPG Alnico II are my favorite pickups. They only get wild when you turn on the juice. Some are crazy before you kick them. Covers on all humbuckers if they are on a Gibson or Epiphone product. The humbucker on my Strat would look weird.

IMG_6851.JPG IMG_5987.JPG I have 4 and 1/2 Les Paul's and they all have covered pickups. The 1/2 is my Les Paul Junior with a P90. I never saw a P90 with out a cover. That are butt ugly and the same with the single coils on most any guitar. I don't know about the bridge pickup on Telecasters, that is one of the most important pickups because it is the soul of one of the greatest guitars ever made. That same pickup is the only one on my lap steel guitar. I put a P90 on that lap guitar and it got a lot more range.

I don't know about the bridge pickup on Telecasters, .

Telecasters usually have uncovered bridge pickups. The surface of the bobbin is exposed and, looking from the side, you can see the tape around the coil.

For me, I have different opinions about covers. For most Les Pauls, I prefer covered. Though some color combinations and uses imply an uncovered pickup to me. Cherry burst Les Pauls look good with cream, uncovered pickups. That's about the only color of Les Paul that I like with uncovered pickups.

I usually prefered covered pickups on SGs. When it comes to super-strats and similar high-gain instruments, I generally prefer uncovered. In fact, for the most part, I prefer uncovered pickups on Strat-type instruments that do not have a pickguard.

I think Explorers and Vs generally look better with covered pickups, unless they also have a Kahler or Floyd Rose. Then, I prefer uncovered pickups, if they are black.
