I did it for a time, the money can be good, it can also be not so good depending on the gig or company. Some of those trucks are totally set up for long term road livin, fridge, microwave, tv, the works.

Yep, I can see why too. It's hard on a family. I got sick and tired of being an absentee father and watching the kids' behavior start to reflect that. So I moved on.

Usually the lot lizards aren't much to look at, either. From one sleeper to the next without much more than a wet wipe to clean up with in between :sick:

Welp, it's official. The fam and I have pulled out of the driveway from the house for the last time, and we spent the first night in the trailer last night.

Huge thanks to @LRT and his fam, they have kindly and graciously allowed me to park it on their property behind his shop. This is just a temporary arrangement, as we still need to find a good place with full hookups, but at least for right now we've got a place to sleep, shower, and poop lol

Kitchen sink drain has a leak that I'll need to address ASAP, the theory is it's leaking possibly from a rub point since this piping moves in and out with the slide out. As soon as I can figure out just how the hell I can get to it, should be a quick fix, and I figure I should reinforce the piping here so as to avoid future issues. However, I am not quite sure yet just what the heck is going on there yet, so who knows...everything else, so far so good

All in all, I've avoided the tent, and the old van down by the river. So in that sense, mission accomplished.

Work starts in 5 days. Time to start pinching pennies.

This should be interesting, to say the least. I used to joke about moving into the jamroom....never really thought I'd be staying just behind it for a while...

So I figured I could get by with a small electric space heater or two. Not so.

Keeps the inside of the trailer toasty enough just fine, but when I woke up this morning I had no water because the pex was all frozen.....close call...no damage.

I failed to realize that only when I use the onboard furnace that I will avoid this. It has a small vent that keeps the basement/underbelly area from freezing by blowingwarm air into the area. By using an electric space heater I bypassed this necessary function, and wound up with no running water.

So, I opened up the access doors for all the plumbing and put the space heater in the basement. Then I hurried my ass into town to fill 3 30lb. propane tanks and went straight home.

All is well again, and extra cozy.

Intercourse winter. Cold sucks.
 
I thought I had posted pics of my new home on wheels, but I guess not....

So, here are pictures of my trailer parked kinda in the yard of the house I moved out of. These pictures are a few months ago.

Was it a downsize? Yeah, big time. But I'm actually really diggin' it...the wife doesn't love it quite as much, but she's adapting. There are many advantages to living this way. There are also disadvantages but they can be defeated pretty quickly with some creative thinking.

So far, so good.

Inside the trash bags you can see in the second pic is a giant cover for the whole trailer, and in the other one is a giant outdoor carpet which I have now as my "front yard", so to speak lol

So far, I haven't noticed any condensation at all, however, we've just begun getting freezing temps and it's just usually been overnight for now. Possibly could be worse the colder it gets. The exhaust vent has quite a bit of moisture in it but it's venting outside
 
Lots of folks have been downsizing and for a lot, its like what you're after and thats to save up for something bigger while budgeting in the short term. Nothing wrong with that! Best of luck to you my friend!

And an RV is still a million times better than the next step in downsizing , just joking bud lol

I have one of those vans, and we do have the columbia river in the backyard...it did cross my mind lol

I'm digging this trailer, wish I would have done this years ago.

Im kinda stuck with our house now and we really need to get something a little bigger, since when we bought it, it was only my wife and I. Now two kids later, the walls are closing in a bit lol

The housing market here though just SUCKS. Everything you can afford is crap, would take an average of $35k just to bring them up to a decent liveable home and they're on top the next door neighbors. If you find one you like, its really out of your price range
