Let's Talk About Picks!

After about 4'ish years of playing with fingers only I started alternating fingers only one day and pick the next. Been doing that about 6'ish months now. I seem to be using the Dunlop .60's only - must be what I'm liking this time around.

I have a desert cup full of them ----all sorts and types-- bass picks (felt) and rubber---every thickness imaginable even WOOD (yep tone WOOD picks) ---people will buy and sell anything
but I finger pick -- or use the JP --- on bass--- I NEVER use a pick ----its like WRONG -- unless your Carol Kaye or Gene Simmons or that Dirnt guy ---- (I hear John Paul Jones used one on a few songs--but not ALL of them) --then its o.k. lol

I have a dish full as well. Some made from stone and some shell and a couple made from coins, but I never use any of them...

Used to be I used the purple tortex picks & would grab a handful every time I bought a 10 pak of strings. I had a great local music store that I had previously done amp repairs for so got healthy discounts & freebies. Since moving interstate almost two years ago my local music store is pretty dismal & stocks not much of anything, & no tortex picks (or bulk strings). I tried the black Dunlop nylon (1mm) picks, the thickest they had, but found them too flexible so have been ordering the jazz 3'sIMG_20190920_071654.jpg
Might have to give those tortex pointy's a go as they look like something I'd like. Cheers

I ise the Fender Heavy or Medium triangular #346. In white only!! Drop a dark pick on a dark stage and it's goodbye. I find I rotate the picks in my fingers as I play and these give me 3 sides to work with.

I also got some custom glo in the dark ones same type from Ego Picks. Love em!!

Right?!
I've got an Epi Brent Hinds signature V, I love the guitar, it's a great axe; I've never seen him actually playing one...aside from advertising stuff.
I did get to see him touch one of his signature model epi V's in person. Some fan boy dressed in all mastodon merchandise brought one in to get it singed. Believe he singed it as dirty behinds.

It wasn't all Mastodon merchandise.
I've been called worse than a fanboy lol

I believe I was wearing Hanes socks and boxer briefs, a pair of Levi's cargo shorts, a Jackson guitars tee shirt, P.F. Flyers on the feet, a Carhartt hat, and THEN the Mastodon stuff/hoodie and denim jacket...

Wait up.....I thought this thread was about picks...

I mostly use the blue Tortex 1.0mm, but I sand them a bit pointier, and re-point them as needed.
I have others/ promo picks for various gear orders, I use them if they feel about like what the1.0mm does.
I usually use the orange Tortex ones on acoustic, or again something similar, but will use what ever except the paper thin flappy wet noodle ones.

I semi regularly play for a bit with no pick, mostly for chording and I will pluck the higher strings now and then with the pinky or ring finger / arpeggiate in a chord shape a bit.
Just as a sort of training or dicking around thing, especially after watching Andy Martin / Guitar Pro Shops demos.
Makes the pointer finger tip / back of fingernail sore sometimes.
I have gotten away from learning slide, but always finger pick when I do.

wheres that meme ?
I dont often play slide, but when I do.........
