John Hobbs AKA Biddlin

Biddlin always had some big (BIG!) words to shoot at ya too! I think I have a pretty
good vocabulary, but Biddlin had me at dictionary sites more than once, I have to
admit.
Crazy!!! I wanted to post about this same thing...

In fact, sometimes Biddlin and Don P (donpearce) would trade posts using their very developed "English Composition" skills. Good Lord, what a fricking headache trying to figure what they both were saying... :BH:

Some of you will recall I had an accident at work back in 2013, where I snapped virtually all the ligaments in my ankle.
It laid me up for a while with 3 reconstruction surgeries and a LOT of pain.
Biddlin posted a tune on YouTube to cheer me up…
We shared Christmas cards, jokes and general banter for many years.
He was my Brother, mentor and a great friend.
Yes, he could be crusty and argumentative, but beneath that he had a good heart.
I’ve passed on everyone’s thoughts to his family.
Thank you all for sharing your memories of John.

That is a very nice memory.

Wow, Alex. Has it been that long ago, already? Time sure does get away from us, doesn’t it?

How is everything now?

It is funny, I remember Bid as many things you all have said.

But of course as it is how I process things. I have the memory that sticks out most for me, after the Butthurt Balm, is his affinity for the Wacky Weed.
As a Tea totaller, I always feel a little out of place at all the substance vices such as Pot, tobacco, booze etc.

Bid and I were always on good terms, despite his polar opposite political views. RIP Bro.

Alex, I am in a recovery mode from falling and tweaking my own ankle on 12/16/2021. It still hurts and swells some even today 11 days later. However, the pain is somewhat less and I hobble around. No major black and blue purple or green discoloring, or protruding bones. I did not go for xrays or see a doc. Pretty sure it is high ankle sprain ( bad stuff) no clue if ligaments or tendons etc got damaged. Just going to live with the slow healing.

JT, I am goin out runnin the roads. Took about 5-7 days off then resumed visiting mom in nursing home. Now 11 days later, about to see if I can go spray my Jackson V clear coat at my buddy's and go shopping for supplies for my stepdaughter's shower tub since she is without a shower for a whole year thanks to her dad.

Worst part is he has the finished walls and tile up, but did not replace her fixture, switch her hot and cold to the proper side of the Hot left, cold right side of her diverter, not a good prep of the backer board water penetration prevention, and worse, the dern tub is out of level, not centered, and it is set too darn low in the opening. He did her NO favors. I totally wished I could have stopped her from letting him try ANYTHING to fix her house up. BUT I did not.

@smitty_p
My ankle is extremely unstable and riddled with arthritis now unfortunately.
I wear a support brace at work, and have to wear a thermal sock when sleeping or the arthritis plays up.
Unfortunately after the 3rd surgery, the surgeon warned me that my ankle was never going to recover to what it was, and I’d be lucky to have 70% functioning.
It’s just on 70%, and I’m having to take some strong pain killers daily so the pain doesn’t get too much.
I can no longer run, and use a stick when I have to walk too far or if I’m on unstable ground…
Other than that, I’m doing ok.
Looking forward to retirement in about 10 years!
I hope everyone else is still well?
@chilli, I’m sorry you have hurt your ankle too bro… I know exactly how it feels, but please, at least wear a support brace so you don’t damage it any more than it is, and try staying off it when you can…

Unfortunately the first 2 surgeries were botched by an inexperienced surgeon. He specialises in hips, not ankles.
The 3rd surgery was done by a Professor of orthopaedics specialising in ankles, but the damage had already been done.
I'm not bitter about it, but it's frustrating as heck when I can't do all the things I used to due to pain and instability.
Thanks for your kind words bro.

Playing gorilla basketball one time 40 plus years ago. Same story. Serious sprained ankle. I did go to doc and sprain was confirmed. Boy did my leg turn all sorts of pretty colors from my ankle to my knee.

In my line of business. If the mechanic screwed up the job on a tractor, the redo was on the store. Not the customer. Always thought the medical world should be held to the same standards.

Fortunately it was on worker’s compensation, so monetarily it was free.
Pain wise though, it wasn’t!
That part sucks for sure. I’ve been extremely fortunate. Avoided any serious injuries. Got a couple fingers I flattened on my fretting hand. Mostly it doesn’t affect playing. About the same 40ish years ago, hyperextended my left knee. Not to the point of needing a doctor, but to this day that knee will tell me when the weathers changing. Compared to some of you guy. It’s nothing and you won’t catch me complaining.

I've embraced it now. There's nothing to be gained by me whinging about it, and to be honest, it's now part of who I am.
Yes, I miss being able to play sports, run around etc, but there's plenty of other things that I can still do.
I think the most sucky part was when I got knocked off my motorcycle back in 2017 and broke the right ankle in 2 places... That was fun while on crutches, trying to support my weight on an ankle that was as unstable as the one I'd just broken! :D
