I have zero knowledge of the context or whatnot, but I have the feeling it may have been a case of joke gone sideways or just in bad taste. I can't really imagine ending a friendship of many years over a single comment. I mean, certainly something that vague and not even really directed at me or my direct family. Being a foreigner here in the Netherlands I've often enough heard the usual "this is our country, anyone else can get out" stuff which I've generally just listened to quietly before reminding them that - while I may be European and look practically like anyone born here - I'm a foreigner, too. Almost always there's a brief moment of silence followed by an explanation and "oh, but I didn't mean *you*" and all that.

See what speculation does ? a paragraph was posted in public.... now there will be responses without actual person to explain. makes it difficult when we don't nip it right when it happens at the issue then roll on..

Who were the "we" who banned Fitz and Timo ?
Cross seems to be saying Dogs did it, that seems unbelievable to me.
I never intended to attack the site with a Molotov, I just asked why threads were deleted.
And why were threads deleted? Does Cross expect to get a promotion ?
Is he trying to get appointed as chief enshi*tifier by the inquisition for his zeal in attacking heretics ?
Ofc I wish Cross well and hope the cancer is not serious,
But we all have health issues, I think Ken is dealing with worse.

I believe he's trying to clarify why we may have noticed a bit of a change in behavior as of late. From what I understand there are 'messages going around' where people are being badmouthed. I've badmouthed exactly one person in my private messages; Cricket.
Maybe he checked with Dogs first. Two guys on the job, might as well align before taking action. I presume that's why this site has a Moderators' Lounge.
Promotion? From what, volunteer to volunteer 1st class? I don't think he has been attacking anyone really, simply trying to enforce some order. I may or may not agree with some of the shots he's called but I'm not really seeing attacks from his side. Putting a fire out can be a messy affair. I never found the MF particularly "censored", policed or anything of the kind - quite the contrary. That's one of the key reasons I dislike the VS takeover.
Agree, though I don't think Ken is actually too badly off, it's his wife who's the one suffering. I wish Ken, his wife, Cross, Cross' daughter and everyone else involved all the best. Except Cricket.

A Stage 112, just recently sold. That was the loudest combo amp I’ve ever had at 160 watts.
And now with modelers I’ve got the Tone master FR-12 and a FR-10.

A Twin Reverb is on my list of amps that I might want at some point. At the moment I can get most of 'that' from my Deluxe Reverb, just not at the volume a TR would deliver. The DR breaks up fairly early with its 6V6 pair which is also one of the reasons I love the amp to death. Nice BCB-60 pedal cases, too, hehe. I've been using one for years, though I'm not much of a pedal guy. If I need it, it's nice to just whack on the lid and go.

I tend to agree with this.
I sent Cross a DM with a few of my thoughts.
He reiterated that the banning was done to "save us" from the VS overlords.
Said he was sorry that I was insulted, but not that he was sorry for his actions.
I think the situation got out of control as a result of the moderators deleting posts to stop a line of questioning.
I think it could have been handled differently.
Would a thread lock not have silenced responses without the draconian response of deleting opinions and banning long time members?
The questions were not, and still have not been answered.
My question was why did content need to be scrubbed?
Please specify the rule that was violated (politics/religion/etc.)
I'm still not sure if I actually violated a forum rule, yet I was either banned to save me, or to shut me up.
So that's rule # what?
This leaves the door open for speculation, and the cycle continues.
HIs letter speaks of "those who have opted to leave... treated with respect".
I empathize with his personal struggles.
Life can come at you for more flanks than you can defend sometimes.
But I'm not feeling the "respect".
I'm also not seeing any remorse.
I may continue to observe, but I have no plans to contribute content to the MF.

It taken me a long time to come down in volume & get the break early. Still probably louder than most like but man we grew up either a twin or Marshall half stacks, Ampeg SVT & the fridge 8x10 & the PA was for the singer. It is so hard to break that because the gigs were so good, you felt them. Got Supro Black magick combo & it really has helped me record better.
Thing is i have a band room & run XLR cable there 50' away & can record fully cranked but am finding the tone at so much lower volume lately. Using mic placement & more of the room capture for depth..
Gigged a 410h & 4x12 all last year & the places we play it was getting to be too much at times. I would take the Supro out mic'd for sure next go round. All the fussin seems to go out the window soon as gig starts. Simply need a clean, crunch, mid breakup & lead pop. Basically clean boost pedal, SD1 & TS & maybe some delay or phaser.

It's funny how volume doesn't translate into a recording. I've literally had people comment on hearing stuff I've played and saying "wow, that sounds like it was DIMED in the room, huh", when actually it was sometimes nothing more than conversation levels. Conversation after a few beers, but still. Mic'ing is an art and while I don't claim to be a wizard at it, I've found what works for me and only mic guitars, no DI there. I do DI the bass as my SansAmp is enough for my bass needs (sit well in the mix and shut up otherwise). Mic'ing bass was a bit of a learning curve and I get better results this way, also not really owning a proper bass stack.
I've recorded stuff that way too but if I need 'cranked' tone, like f.e. a DR breaking up with the volume around 8 or so, I just attenuate to practical levels. My trusty JohnH M2 build is a life-saver (or mic-saver...) for that.

FWIW and I am not defending VS but they also bought The Gear Page. The layout and format has not changed. But
some of the previous A-hole mods are gone. The VS admin has been very helpful with issues regarding the change.
But I have not pushed the boundaries nor do I know what they are now. But I'm pretty sure they now own any pictures
you post.
I think it's actually moderated better now. Maybe that speaks to the old crew who definitely played favorites. I could
tell some stores what happened to me in the past regarding infractions and temporary bans. There was a small bunch
of people watching me and a few others just waiting to report me. One would egg others on and his buddies would
just watch and report whoever took the cheese.

I am not saying that they are not turning the MF into crap. I don't care for the new format myself. I probably will not
participate. If I do it will be very little. I feel for you guys who spend a lot of time there. It's seems like someone
dropped a deuce on your comradery.
Also I was not ask to change my password yet and I am currently logged in over there. It's nine lower case letters. You
guys know more about any of old ways than I ever will. But like I said before they might own the pictures you post.

Yup, he went back to the MF and was taking pot shots at me for pointing out he was wrong, last thing I saw. If you replace "mad" with "meth" in his name, it all makes more sense.
The tech side is certainly slow but I plan to bring some life into it soon.
