Inexpensive Active Studio Monitors

First off, I love quoting myself. Don't get me started on third person.

This one time, I came home with a new 2001 Sportster Sport. It was a sweet bike, but that isn't the point right now. I never told the wife about it until I rode into the driveway. Long story short, I got to sit through several hours of trying on coats at Ribnick Fur and Leather before she settled on a full length shearling coat she still wears to this day. It cost half of what the Sportster did. Sportster is long gone. Wish I still had it. I might need another beer now.

Similar story with my Vette. I called the wife and said I was at the dealer buying the Vette. She said sure you are, go ahead, so I did.

She was quite surprised when she came home from work and there was a nice shiny Vette in the driveway! She said "I can't believe you bought that car!"
I said "I told you I was." That was the end of the story, she never hassled me about it and I didn't have to buy her anything...

Something else to think about is multiple monitor sets. This will allow you to mix on one set and then try a different set. It may help to get a better quality mix.
Dont take my word for it all I know is what I've researched.
I am finally getting ready to dive into this rabbit hole and see if what I've researched payed off. I am all ears for your suggestions and advice.

"I'm all ears" - like what you did there.

Alright, I'm about to drop the hammer on a pair of Presonus Eris E8's. These are the older version without the new tweeter dispersion dohickey thing. That appears to be the only difference from the new E8 XT version. $300 for the pair in my hands by Tuesday. I like the Kevlar 8 inch driver and the silk dome tweeter. I like the 140 watt class A/B amplifier and I really like the fact that the mid/treble boost/cut controls are on pots and not fixed switch points.

I'll give you guys a couple hours to talk me down.

Was just reading on recording forum some dude fried his JBL's, but he got a solid 12 years from them.
Longer than I'll be keeping the pair on my desk I betcha.
Pre-Sonus?

Nothing but encouragement from me being as I have two pairs of Presonus and LOVE them!

I was very tempted by the E44 as I like the multiple small driver approach being a long time Polk fan, but I couldn't pass up the price on these. I've always been a bit of an audio freak. There's a whole bunch of Solen Fast Caps on the crossovers of my 1978 RTA12's.

No switch yet. I have to get cables as well. I only have 1/4 inch outs on the back of my Scarlet. Do I need anything different than standard guitar cables?
Balanced 1/4 inch TRS cables. You have TRS outputs on your interface. Guitar cable will work in a pinch, but you may not get the quality you will with a set of balanced cables.
Amazon has plenty of options available.

It has been, since that little bump, very trouble free. More than I could have ever expect.

Now I'm trying to tune my ear?one thing though, I keep turning up the brightness, but I'm not getting any smarter?
Never stop learning new things. I’m still learning my HS8 set up...a little at a time. I’m still getting caught up on Reaper... I kinda skipped most of version 5 when I decided to learn about iOS recording...some of the things I used plugins for in version 4(on my old XP box) have now been integrated into Reaper natively.
I went looking for the current Mac version of the spectral editing tool I used to like a lot, only to find that Reaper has spectral editing on board now...go figure. Very cool stuff to be found these days...
