In these times of isolation

Yep, the Web seems slow today. My connection speeds read normal but I think most sites are lagging thanks to traffic.

Well, I hate to say it but ever since the lockdown, things are 100% business as usual here in Jax. Stores are swamped, UPS storre has lines (one employee had a mask on another snickered at me as I walked in), only maybe every 5th person overall has a mask. I don't really see any reduction in traffic. Plenty of pedestrians as well.

McDs looks just like it always does. None of the drive thru workers wearing masks or gloves. I'm not sure why police aren't enforcing lockdown. We have the second most cases after NY.

:fan:

This is why the US is breaking all Covid-19 records, sadly. The first nation to have 2,000 people die of Covid-19 in a day. More than half a million recorded cases and a high mortality rate while still at the early stages of the cycle are not good signs.

The Federal/State issues are a real problem, as is also being seen in Europe. Clear and decisive early measures are the best way to limit the damage of this horrible virus. UK doing terribly too.

On the upside, my guitar playing is staying the same with all the added practice time (rather than just getting worse as it normally does... :) ).

I made meself a nice steak, onion and cheese sandwich today.

Fortunately, here most people are wearing masks. I had to run to Home Depot yesterday to get some repair items. Although the store was more crowded than I would have liked, most folks were wearing masks and looked like they were trying to keep some distance.

I actually have a couple N95 masks. I bought a couple of packs last fall to use while I was gathering leaves in the yard to keep from breathing in a lot of dust. I still a had a couple when this whole thing started.

When I get home from going out (which is VERY seldom), I preheat my oven to 160 degrees (just over 70 degrees Celsius) and bake the mask for 30 minutes to sterilize it.

EDIT:

I made the above comment based on an article I read:

It seems the article somewhat misquoted the research paper. Whereas they did correctly quote the temperature and duration, the research paper does not recommend home ovens, even though the article says that what the research paper advised.

So, it seems there is misinformation about!

In retrospect, I can see the risks here.

The old adage REALLY applies:

Do not try this in your own home!

It's a good thing when I can learn something new each day!

Here‘s the article I based my idea on.

I actually didn’t think of it by myself!

Of course, I have no way of actually testing the mask, but this does make sense.

My oven actually runs a little hot, so I’m actually more at about 165 degrees. The elastic bands seems to hold up okay, too.

My little google searching, I see higher temps recommended BWTFDIK.

Well, I just read the research paper quoted in the article I posted.
