I used to be happier, but eESGe started to question my tube amp purchases, and it all went downhill from there; I often cry alone at night...

If we're playing the PRS game, here is one of my favourite looking guitars I've owned:

Really nice hardware too. I wasn't that fond of the standard pickup, but that's any easy swap - I felt the Korina sucked some of the wallop out of the guitar, so something a bit beefier was required.

S1 coil split volume knob and the best part is the LSR roller nut. The only way it goes out of tune is if you throw it down a flight of stairs. It's fairly heavy as far as strats go.

It took months of searching to find the right deal and it finally came up on Reverb (a horrifying candy store).
So I pounced on this baby...
A 2012 P22 with rosewood neck and gold hardware. I changed the gold tuner buttons to ebony.









Pulled the pups and found out it was a NAMM guitar...



Super comfy Pattern regular neck, nice 57/08 pups and with the blend of piezo is incredibly versatile!

Another great guitar - this one especially beautiful!

I'm a big fan of the 57/08s. Probably my favorite PAF type, at least for a standardized model. IMO these really deserve the legendary status they've achieved. Great vintage coloration plus a certain 3-D magic I haven't found in any other pickups. Not even the Tom Holmes, which I love almost as much - but not quite.

I sure must be deaf because I cannot hear as many nuances as almost 95% of our members seem to with guitar pickup choices, amp tube swaps, guitar caps, etc. Although, I can hear many glorious sounds as a guitar gets played through certain amps.

I must not have a clue what to listen for when it comes to making 3 D magic, notes sounding this or that just so like s sound engineer would have the ear for, etc. But, if we want to talk about a juicy oooooooooooooooooooooo type sound, I think I can comment on some of that. Bastarddon, VoxAC30, Smitty and IvanH will be able to add their own take on this experience since Smitty has played his guitars through my exact amp, while Ivan has hand built one like it too. Don knows a lot about amps, sound etc, and Voxy owns and has played similar units and a variety of others of the same era. That thing I am referencing is just how an amp like my '72 Marshall JMP 50 watt sounds through 4- 12 inch Celestian speakers. I can hear how it is nothing like any other amp I have ever played through or had other more accomplished players demo for me.

Now back to ecclectic's statement. I also have never heard of some of these pups discussed. 57/08 pr Tom Holmes ones. Fill me in please. My usual M. O. at times like this would be to don my headphones and pull up some youtube clips of these to hear what he means.

I 100% disagree with you, Chilli, but 100% agree with your point. :p

Good ears, bad ears, who knows? Who is to judge???

Do we hear differently, for better or worse, hugely so, imho. Experience, skill, knowledge, winkie size etc, doesn't stop one having an opinion although sometimes it does add authority of opinion; for example, if SG John makes a comment about an SG that I don't agree with then I'll read it two times or even three before disagreeing because the fella has knowledge that needs respecting (not just because he has a huge ... :) Ricky Gervais joke there, sorry (maybe it's true!)... And, on another level, we all do - good folks here, not trolls.

PRS has some really good puppies, and, in the cheaper models, some very average puppies - just like Epi Gibson; both are fantastic until a bit of gain is added...

I would also like to add, for all members who can actually hear that a guitar is not intonated precisely, I am first to admit, I may be able to hear when a note is out of tune, but I surely could not listen to say a Yes song or a Rory Gallagher, etc and tell you his 4th string E note sounds right, but his 2nd string E sounds as if the intonation is off... But some of you guys can. I know because I have heard some pretty discerning ear comments on here.
