If you like pets...

Singer Mike Posner just got nailed by a rattler!

Nope Nope Nope! .45acp rescue:pound-hand:

See, now, @Trident...

Ya gots me in a quandary...

.45 ACP is a great round.

But, I also think rattlers are cool...but I’d never keep venomous serpents at my home....

Though, rattlers are probably my favorite hot snake.

But, a 1911 kicks butt...

Decisions...decisions...

Don't have too many recent photos on this computer of the cats. They are all ferals that my wife brought home from the airport. This is an old photo of Boris. He runs the house and tries to beat up the other cats whenever possible. Even though he's quite handsome, don't let his looks fool you. He's nothing but trouble.

He adopted me as his pet human. Now that I'm home more often, he is always at my side when he's not napping. At night he's next to me. If I go relax on the porch, he has to follow me and sit next to me. We figure he's about 16 or 17 years old now.

My grandfather gave me a 1927 Colt Hartford built 1911 bearing Argentine Mitary markings (officially a 1927A1) in the Summer of 1980.

I restored that pistol many years later and actually carried it on-duty for the last 7 years of my police career.

I have tons of photos of the restoration somewhere, even re-parkerized it at home...olive green.

This is the kind of snake I had.

It’s a black rat snake. It was a really cool snake. They can be feisty and will readily strike, at first. So, a little care is necessary to avoid a bite. But, they settle down fairly quickly if you handle them right.

They also take thawed frozen rats readily. Mine wasn’t a fussy eater. And, it never had issues shedding, either.

I wouldn’t mind having another, or it’s more colorful cousin, the corn snake.

But, I don’t have any of my herp gear, anymore. I’d have to start all over.

I've always been fascinated by snakes. As a kid growing up on the ranch, we did not kill Rattlesnakes, as my Dad taught me all things have a grand purpose. We frequently caught them and relocated them out in the country.

Mom would lock the door when she would see me coming with a rattlesnake in hand.

I found a baby Northern Pacific once, not much bigger than a fat nightcrawler. I built an elaborate geranium for him out of a huge salt water fish tank that developed a leak and was given to me.

I kept that snake many years. He would come to the glass when he saw me. Although I never removed him from his enclosure without a hook, he seemed to enjoy being handled once out of doors.

I befriended a water moccasin in Kentucky in the summer of 1980 that lived in one of the ponds on my grandparent's farm near Devil's Elbow. When I would float out in the John boat, he would swim up to the boat regularly in a most inquisitive way...but I never tried to handle him.

My wife is terrified of all snakes, so Its likely I would have a Gaboon Adder if I was allowed to. They have the most intriguing markings...

I think venomous are cool, though I don't think I'd ever want to keep one. I'm not scared of them; it's just not my thing. I don't think I'd enjoy all the precautions just to handle the animal, if for no other reason, than to clean it's enclosure. But, if others can be responsible with the animal, both in handling it and properly caring for it, I've got no issue. It's just not what I think I would enjoy.

Having said that, if I ever did have a hot snake, I would probably do rattlesnakes, too. Or, I could see having a copperhead. I like their banding.

Pennie, our 5 year old Golden Retriever, whom we rescued last year. She was unsocialised, had a broken front paw that was never treated, and left in a small courtyard area day and night with no human or animal contact.
Now she lives in the lap of luxury with 2 cats, 3 rats and a couple of goldfish.

Sam... A 14 year old feral cat that we adopted about 13 1/2 years ago. He is the local guard cat, who beats up any dog or cat that dares enter his yard. He’s also a major smoocher who loves to cuddle up at your feet and purr like a supercharged Diesel train engine!

Did you ever have the Western Diamondbacks?

Those are some gorgeous creatures.

I suppose I should qualify my earlier post.

If I weren’t married with a family...there is a possibility I’d keep a hot snake...possibly some form of rattley snake!

My pet was a Northern Pacific. But, the most docile I have ever encountered in the field are the black tails. I've handled them freely after just a few minutes of contact. Very inquisitive!!!
