I want a new fuzz pedal...

I have one like this. The one in the video sounds amazing but mine doesn't respond like that, despite my best efforts with the bias trim pot. Now, I bought mine as a B-stock unit so someone else had already sent it back, probably for a reason. Maybe I'll just mod the one I have.

You could chase up some better germanium transistors (HFE & leakage current in correct range) & swap them out. This is what makes or breaks germanium fuzzes. Cheers

For a good fuzz face, the general consensus is that you need "low leakage" transistors, the first (Q1) having HFE of about 90, the second (Q2) having HFE of about 120.
Of late, I've been using (measured HFE/leakage) Mullard CV7003 (military spec OC44) transistors in my Rangemaster & Fuzz builds. Very good quality transistors, I'll PM you my source later today. Cheers

Thanks that'd be great! I think those exact transistors are what's in the JAM pedal I posted above.

The Soul Bender is a modern classic. Swollen Pickle is great too.

Ive only got nine fuzz pedals left. I know a couple are out on loan...which reminds me my dad had a few of them I am going to get back now. :(

Top left to bottom right is:

Dark Arts Toneworks Fnord clone local from my buddy at River City

CoPilot FX Terra Fuzz

TC Honey Pot

Custom Devi Ever Soda Meiser clone from a guy on Reverb

Source Audio OFD

Catalinbread Teaser Stallion (one of the best pedals in all of existence)

Pigtronix Disnortion Micro

and the Way Huge MKII

If you want a good muff on the cheap, the TC is the way to go. If you want the kitchen sink too the Source Audio is everything but far more pricey.

There are so many good fuzz pedals out there.
that is a bunch of fun in that pic !!

One of my favourite fuzz pedals is the Tonebender Mk1 type I built (sorry, I don't have a pic on my 'phone & aren't home ATM). It's a bright sounding fuzz, not the thick, smooth & sustaining fuzz of later model Tonebenders, rather a gated, spitting, stuttering (tearing paper sound) type fuzz. I can see why Mick Ronson, Beck etc liked them. Took forever to build as it was VERY hard to find transistors that would play nicely together. Cheers

I had a Swollen Pickle. Hated it, sold it. Then I had the Mudhoney II. Loved it, but it was too big for my board. Now I have the MXR Super Badass Variac Fuzz. Not sure if it is better than the T-Rex but it is as versatile and it is smaller. I don't use fuzz much so I don't want it taking over my board.
