Mesa's do indeed have nice cleans. It is not what they are know for, but they are certainly obtainable with little effort.

The green/clean channel, for me, really excelled as a pedal platform. The green/pushed channel could get you into some serious Vox-ish territory and killed with a good drive pedal in front of it. The amp has a truly world-class effects loop (as all Mesas do) so you can really do a lot with the cleans.

But lets be honest...nobody is buying a Recto for cleans!!

The cleans in my Mk 5 rival a good Fender.

You won't be disappointed, that's for sure. If you are going to be using it clean a lot also check out the Rectoverb...it's the same amp with a reverb tank. Sounds killer.

I've done some time with a rectumfryer.
I certainly didn't use it for clean tones, but I can confirm that it will not disappoint. Pretty pristine cleans it has.

Yes, this is most likely very true. But I ask, just in case I run into one of these at a great deal. If I buy another channel switcher, I really want it to have great cleans and a great high gain channel. My Rivera Quiana is a 2 channel switching amp that has one of the best cleans I've ever heard and a darn good crunch channel. But I need to sell something nice to get something else just as nice, if you know what I mean. Still no bites on the Rivera. Hopefully by the approaching summer it will be a different story. Still leaning towards the smaller Mark Fives or 50 watt Triple Crown. If I have to drive all the way to Mesa Boogie of Hollywood to test drive the Mesas, then so be it. But hopefully I won't have to drive any further than Santa Barbara. I just have to be patient, which is very hard when you got a mesa amount of GAS.

Understood. And you have the right idea - if you go to H'wood you can try them all out, side-by-side and make the right decision. The people there are super-cool and gearheads, so it's fun to just hang. I go over there once or twice a year to check out whatever is new.

You should make it a Pilgrimage to head over there. Besides Mesa Boogie Hollywood, right next to it is Neely Guitars: A real custom guitar shop with a well known reputation as one of the best repair shops in the USA. At the other end of the block is a Sam Ash store. Across the street from all of this is a massive Guitar Center. This block area is like a Disneyland for GAS-sensitive musicians! And if you like to live dangerously, and buildup even more gas, there's this really good Mexican food place called El Compadre, which is in between the Mesa and Sam Ash stores!

But like gball said about that Mesa store: The employees there are very chill and will welcome you very warmly. It's a small store but very well equipped. Last time I was there was around 2009.

And (and this is very important) they have no problem letting you wind the amps up so see how they do at volume. You would never be permitted to play so loud in a GC or even the average Mom-and-Pop as those guys will let you get away with.

When we were cruising through that area the GC was being remodeled, parking is scarce, and at the end of a long day, ya just want to keep heading home.
I can remember when the GC was on the other side of the street.
