Welp... Yesterday I helped my son map out a route to his new workplace he'll start at in about 3 weeks. Need to cross two bridges (Alex Fraser and Queensborough), and some possibly very/too busy roads.
Mapped it out with Komoot with slightly different routes to/fro.
Then we headed out to test it. Approx 14 kms each way. I wanted to do exactly what Komoot offered just to experience it so used the phone app for turn by turn (what a battery hog).
Learned a section that shall not be repeated on the way, so an alternative was chosen for next time. Same thing on the way back as well.
Had lunch at the destination.
On the way back, heading down the hill on the South end of the Alex Fraser I misjudged a sharp corner and smashed my left elbow into the solid metal railing at 35kmh.
Luckily I was not gripping the left grip too hard as my arm flew back with the impact, and my steering wobbled a bit before straightening out.
The impact was harsh and I knew I was going to pay for that blunder later. Made it home after about 5kms whilst uttering a few obscenities.
Good thing my grip was loose, otherwise the impending wipeout could have been a spectacular mess, or worse.
It didn't take long for the pain to set in. I gradually lost most of the mobility in my left arm. Topical pain relief, Ibuprofen, and a couple of beers later I could tolerate it, but mobility was kaput.
Not supposed to look like that!
This is the only picture, as we were motivated to do a time trial of the commute. It truly does not represent the feel of the injury.
In any case, that was my first ride in the last 3 weeks or so, and I paid for it, Lol! No rides for me today, and the weather is even nicer!
Dumba$$ Dave...
Slightly better today, swelling down a bit, mobility up slightly, pain down slightly. If that trend continues I'll avoid a visit to ER. So... pretty sure I didn't break anything (hey I can even type two handed now) Hoping I didn't crack/fracture anything. My guess is a very bad sprain.
IDJITS R US!
Oh, and forget playing guitar...
