Glad your back, Cadorman! Hope you enjoy the Orange. I've never once played one I liked, but that's the great thing about this day and age, everyone with all their varied tastes can find an amp that suits them. Personally, I'd have recommended you try out a Blackstar, since you like Marshall. Or a Boss Katana. But, you can always try those later if the Orange doesn't hit the spot for ya.

So my terrible dilemma at the moment is which 15-20 watt tube head to buy. I have the DSL100HR Marshall and the DSL1HR. I love them both. I know a DSL20HR will work great for me, but should I try something else? I'm really intrigued by the Orange tube amps. Should I go for it, or stick with the safe bet I know will work for me?

Switch the DSL100H to 50 watt mode....

I'll probably end up with the DSL20HR in the future anyway. I love the tone I get out of them. I just need to broaden my horizons.

You might want to check out the Marshal Origin. They are available in both 20 and 50 watt models.

Now, let me say this....they are not a channel switching amp. In stock form, they have a 'Boost' feature which gives you more gain, but it isn't like a channel switching amp. It's very loud and gives you a very 'classic rock' style of overdrive. The stock FX loop works very well.

The 20 watt version has 'power scaling' switch that gives you 20 watts on High power 3W on Mid and low power approx 0.5W on low.

The 50 watt version' 'power scaling' yields 50W on High Power, 10W on mid power approx 10W and low power gives approx 5W.

It also has a 'Tilt' control which is another type of tone 'coloration' control. It's similar to how the old '4-Holers' caould be 'jumped' between low and high. It gives you addition control over the mid and high frequency.

IMHO, they act a lot like a JTM45.

Now, @syscokid hot rodded the 50 watt that I have, so High power gives you 50W, Mid gives you 50W and low gives you 50W and pushing or pulling 'Boost" really doesn't change anything. It's like shaking up a sack of rattlesnakes when you switch it on.

@Robert Herndon I sold my Origin 50H a couple of years ago. I prefer the DSL line and I have my 1987 clone if I want to go down that road. The bike shop is on 6 acres in the woods. A couple of the guys want to jam after work and I don't want to lug my DSL100HR around. They have 15 watt amps and I want to blend in. I want to try a Hi-Watt in the Future and maybe revisit Fender. Those Revv's do look interesting.

So although it seems a decision has been made it also seems this has become a repository for low-watt recommendations and taking that to heart, there's one little amp that has really caught my attention:

I enjoy most video demos of Victory amps. Martin Kidd, formerly of Cornford Amps, is the Dude for Victory Amp's circuit designs. Mr Kidd definitely knows how to design some great sounding R&R amps. Hell, ask Guthrie Govan or Rabea Massaad!

Orange Tiny Terror
OR 15 is pretty good, it's basically the same amp with an effects loop.

The DSL15C has to be the worst sounding amp I have ever played so far and they suck to repair
I did buy my sister in law a Friedman Runt 20 combo sounds descent cheaper than I could build one and it cuts through the mix just fine.

To each his own if you want a substandard clean sound and a buzz saw overdrive tone go with the DSL15C and support communism go for it.

How do I judge a amp how it cuts through the mix with the band
