So who makes the real ones?

This question had me researching. For modern day tube production, if you look at all the Russian tube brands that New Sensor manufacturers, only EH offers a real tetrode 6CA7. China’s PSVANE offers a tetrode 6CA7… and that’s about it! JJ’s (made in Slovakia) pentode 6CA7 is just another variant of a real EL34, IMO. If you include the JJ 6CA7, they make 4 variants of the EL34.

If you look at the NOS tube list that 67plexi posted, you’ll notice that the American version of the European EL34 are the 6CA7’s. I read somewhere that back in the golden days of tube manufacturing, that the European EL34’s had a patent on them. American manufacturing went around the patent by eliminating the suppressor grid of the 5-element pentode EL34 to the 4-element tetrode 6CA7. Then again, I could be full of poop…

In EVH 1968 Marshall Super leads used USA made 6CA7 next when Peavey built his next amps Peavey cleaned out the USA made 6L6GC tubes
Peavey named them Super 6. 1974 was the last production year of the good 6L6GC USA made
