Well I own both side by side--- and --- Ill say this -- for an 80.00 Peavey -- vs a what 800.00 Mesa----- uhm--------- lets just say NEITHER are leaving here anytime soon ...

Excellent suggestion on the Randall. Our Robert Herndon seems to favor the drive and voicing of his Marshall SS Valvestate. Enter Randall, the leaders in SS high gain amps.You need gain? Why look any further than a nice Randall...

^ I bought myself one of these to leave at my house in Thailand with an Ibanez (the wife sold them both when I was working way - minor argument there...)
It actually sounded pretty good (I wish I still had it - I'll get myself another Randall when I'm settled in my own place at some point in the future).

The thing is Robert, they're are not just metal amps. OK, they don't do that much in way of clean, but grit, low OD, bluesy-rock and classic rock are not areas which you'd think of as Randall territory, but they shine in that space. Then, as the gain is added, they do their thing to the max. The tripple rec is an impressive amp, but the Randall wasn't blown away by it - some may say it held it's own.
