Is there any validity to tuning stability with locking due to not having winding slippage? The one and only benefit is quicker string changes. Other than that there is really no reason to switch them out
On my Stetsbar equipped Gibsons, I feel that there is an additional layer of stability with locking tuners. It is one less area of concern when strings go slack…and back.Is there any validity to tuning stability with locking due to not having winding slippage?

As to the original query posed by @4406Pack … I have a few sets of locking tuners. They’re mostly on guitars that I had in heavy gigging rotation. The reasoning was fast, stable tuning, and string changes (and the above mentioned trem stability)
IIRC, I only have 5 guitars with locking tuners…about one third of my 6-string electric collection. Basically, if I think/know that I need new tuners, I’m happy to use locking tuners…if applicable. Two of my guitars that have them came to me with no tuners at all, for example.
Wholeheartedly agreed. It is important that the nut geometry is correct, and the tuners are a secondary concern at the headstock. I feel that the wound E, A, and D strings being wrapped two to three revolutions around a tuning post do present an opportunity for tuning anomalies when engaging the aforementioned “Wangerator”.The nut is the main cause of tuning instability with the Wangerator, not the tuners.

Let's hope that's not the FedEx guy trampolining on your guitar box...
