Has anyone else seen this type of staining?

On a guitar…I mentioned recently, in another thread around here, that I thought my SG finish was reacting to my shirt.
This was not from my shirt. It’s kinda steamy here today, and I’ve been doing some studio cleanup/rehab/rearranging. I decided to take a break and fire up the Laney for a bit after I swapped it in to the spot that the Dual Rec has been hogging lately. I probably played with the looper for around 45 minutes, and decided to take a break and a pic for “the muse I adorn“ thread.
Well….imagine my surprise when I saw this:

Holy SHlT! That is the same kind of fogging I thought my shirt had been making!

I haven’t noticed any of my other guitars finish reacting to my perspiration like this…
I took these pictures about 30 minutes ago now….
I did wipe it down immediately.
I’ll go back and check on it in a few more minutes.

Until then…Has anyone else had this happen?

That would totally freak me out the door if I saw that happen to one of my guitars!

I haven’t even seen that happen on my old ‘74 SG even with its very aged nitrocellulose. And, I have played my ‘74 in situations where I sweat on it quite a bit.

Does your guitar always show the same pattern when this happens?

This is the worst, and first time, for this area. I was standing while playing, and enjoying the heck out of the experience. Previously, I had a spot like this show up on the backside of the upper horn, where it was pressed into my ribs, while I was playing seated. I blamed that on the print on my t-shirt at the time, but now I’m wondering if it was my perspiration. The forearm crossing zone showed no signs at that time, but contact there is limited when I play seated.

I‘m going to go check on it now…

Whoa...never seen anything like that. You sure that's from sweat?
Yeah….it’s right where my right forearm rests when playing while standing…you can see the runoff.
Chemical reaction with the leather dye ??? otherwise looks like water base finish but Gibson never used water base.
Good point on the leather dye, but no contact there…and no symptoms where there is contact.
Isopropyl??
I ain’t been drinkin‘ in a couple of days…but I may start soon… ;)

Hey!…..does anyone else think that there could be a layer of wax on this guitar? I mean, I didn’t put any wax on it, but I’ve only had it since winter. If someone had previously waxed it(the finish is heavily worn in places), do you think it could react that way?

Before….

a little over an hour later…

No sign of the sweat-fog….it stares back at me…mocking…and says…”what?”

Okay…I have a long-shot theory.

I’m sure you’ve seen the fogginess or blushing that can occur when nitro is applied in too humid of conditions, but clears up after the humidity goes back down.

I‘m wondering if that happened when Gibson finished it, like maybe the air-conditioning went on the fritz In the middle of a Nashville summer.

Then, most of the time it’s fine, but then when you get it sweaty you “reactivate” the fogginess in the area where it got wet.

Like I said, it’s a long-shot theory and I’m not a finishing expert. But, it sounds good!
