Happy New Guitar Day—Telecaster Custom!

I generally try to say “terrible for me” or “they don’t work for me” or “I haven’t had good results with this or that device”
Much “yes!” In these settings, a simple “imo” or “ime” at the conclusion of (or prefacing) a personal statement might avoid the “ire” of others that are not in agreement. Some of us do understand that we express opinion on these threads, and don’t sweat the occasional indiscretions that others may mark.

No ruder than stating flatly that EMGs are “terrible.” I’ve used them on my main guitar for 25 years and have received nothing but compliments on my guitar sounds. They are objectively not terrible.

Well that's great for you. Lets leave it at that. Others think differently. If you can't learn to disagree without being rude, then it would be better if you said nothing.

The guitar, the sound you make with the guitar, yes.
It's not the PU that makes the sound, it's you who makes the sound.

My wife has good taste in everything except men.

Yours and mine both man ;).

Also, upon further reflection I have decided that I am going to move the MiM Deluxe along. I have the two AmPro Deluxes and they have become my go-to guitars, and as good as the '72 Classic Series one is (and despite the fact that I just dropped $60 on new tuners) it seems surplus to the requirement. I believe I am going to flip it and pick up another Stratocaster so I can have one in my office and one at home - I have one of the Deluxes and my Les Paul Custom in the office so it would be a nice threesome.

Despite several people having good fortune with the stock tuners, I went ahead and replaced them on my 2007 Fender Classic Series ‘72 Telecaster Deluxe as well.

Looking awesome, functioning even better.

Now I need to get a fretjob (at the least a level and crown) on it.

Took the Custom (“Keef”) and the Deluxe (“Bevo”) to rehearsal tonight…

Both performed admirably, but the Custom (Keef) really shined shone shoneded sounded great in the rehearsal room with my Excelsior Pro amp…the new tuners were a godsend, since I was switching to alternate and open tunings all night.

Keef (the guitar, not the guy) worked very well with standard/440, Open G and did pretty good with Open D…I have a theory that certain guitars work better with certain tunings due to resonant frequencies of pickups and wood and the alignment of the Topo Chico bottles in my fridge or whatever; there’s some evidence to this being true because some guitars just don’t work well with some tunings…Keef (my Telecaster Custom) worked best with two of my three favored tunings, so again, I made a good purchase.

We had to re-key/transpose one song because it was too high for my vocal range, so I tuned the Deluxe (Bevo) down a full step to DGCFAD…held tight and sounded strong.

My bandmate and co-guitarist was almost as jazzed about the Custom as I was—when he saw it, he said, “That’s the model that made me want to be a guitarist, because of Keith Richards!” He was suitably impressed by the sound, feel and looks.
